*BS*JIM PARMENTER is hoping Dover fans and the community can back his project to build a new Centre Spot by raising another £24,000 during the next three months.
*BF*The Whites chairman has already vowed to underwrite £130,000 of the £160,000 project – leaving supporters and the community to contribute just £30,000 by the end of the season to ensure building can commence this Spring.
Supporters have so far raised around £6,000 but that is still some distance off the £30,000 target – and Jim is hoping for one big push from everyone to back his plans.
Jim said: “Six grand is a good figure raised so far but we need to start pushing that on. We’ve had the Christmas period, a difficult time for everyone financially, but now we need all our fans to get behind this in whatever way they can so we achieve the £30,000 target.
“This complex is going to be fantastic and bring substantial revenue gains to Dover Athletic. All the profits will be reinvested into the club to take it forward – and that is something we’re going to need desperately if we’re to progress both on and off the field.
“Some events have been organised to raise funds and we need everyone to support them – also we would like fans to help us organise events and schemes which can help us add to the fundraising total.
“It’s so important that things don’t stagnate. I’ve personally agreed to underwrite £130,000 of the total and only ask for the club and community to contribute the rest of the total, which is now just £24,000.”
Last night, with more than 900 fans at the Horsham YMCA game, we only managed to collect £48. That is just a fraction above 4p per person.
Dover Athletic have already booked the contractors to commence building work. All that is needed now is the funds.
SeaFrance and KMfm are organising an Irish Night, where profits will be donated to Dover Athletic’s Centre Spot 2008 Appeal, while a big wine and wisdom quiz night is set to be staged by the club.
Full details on these two events will be announced shortly. Meanwhile, fans are encouraged to keep throwing money into the bucket collections at the ground supporting the appeal.
