*BS*Carshalton visit Perrys Crabble on Saturday as Whites kick off their FA Cup campaign. Nicky Forster says he “can’t wait” for his first game in charge.*BF*
The cup is perhaps the best way for him to start but Carshalton will aim to lay a banana skin in his path and cause an upset.
The Ryman Premier outfit have some good players in their ranks but are currently struggling for form.
Dover fans will be hoping that last year’s unprecedented cup run wasn’t the exception to prove the rule, while at the same time wary that the grand old competition can distract from the league campaign.
That’s the conflicted world football fans live in. Managers usually can’t win when it comes to prioritising so they may as well go for it in all competitions.
Dover’s new manager is unlikely to hold anything back this weekend, knowing that the cup can be a welcome relief too and help build a winning momentum.
Forster thanked friends and followers on Twitter for their messages this week and made it clear that he and assistant Steve Brown intend to hit the ground running.
Nicky said: “Big thanks (for your) messages of congrats and support! Delighted to be Dover Athletic manager. Can’t wait to get going now! FOZ”
Forster’s positivity will be replicated on the terraces and hopefully transmitted to the players, building up confidence among a talented squad.
Rome wasn’t built in a day though and success this season, and beyond, will only be constructed with greater consistency and gradual improvements.
Forster told the Dover Express: “We’ve started slowly but promotion is very much the aim – and very much within our grasp.
“Steve and myself are massively ambitious individuals. We’re here to get success and nothing else.”
The full interview can be read in this week’s Dover Express, the club’s new media partner.
There are enough building blocks in place already to get Whites on their way to a successful season, and the boss’ immediate task is to coax the best out of them as a team.
Good luck Foz. Here’s to a long and fruitful partnership together.
