Planning to visit Altrincham on Saturday?
Well, the hosts have provided us with a comprehensive guide for all of you making the trip to Cheshire.
Welcome to Altrincham
We had the pleasure of visiting Dover early last season, but we never got the chance to welcome you up north to Alty in the 2020/21 season. It’s been over five years since your last visit to The J.Davidson Stadium … it’s been too long!
How to get your ticket?
First thing is first, you need a match ticket! We strongly recommend buying your tickets online in advance here to make your experience run smoothly and save a little time getting into the ground. You can find details on purchasing your tickets online on that link and please note that all matches are segregated this season and away fans enter via gates 5/6.
We do offer card and cash payment options to purchase your tickets on the gate and at just £17 for adults, we are one of the cheapest clubs in the National League. We do however strongly advise away fans to purchase their ticket in advance to save queuing and just make life that little be easier for you and us.
Fancy treating yourself to Alty hospitality?
We’re going to tell you all about how great the town centre is but if we’re being honest, we’re pretty good at hosting people ourselves in the Manchester Glass Sponsor’s Lounge! ‘Treat others like you’d like to be treated yourself’ is the rule of thumb at Alty and we take pride in being damn good hosts. There is a pre-match complimentary bar and meal, half-time refreshments, you’ll hear from our first team manager Phil Parkinson along with reserved seats in the family stand. Come on, let us look after you for the day, grab your hospitality ticket here!
Matchday programme
Of course you’ll want to pick up a copy of our incredible matchday programme costing just £3….you know, the change from the £20 note you had when you bought your ticket?! Featuring updates from the Board, Director of Football, captain Jake Moult as well as the lowdown on your own team, you’ll find plenty to entertain yourself with until kick off. You can purchase it in the stadium but you can also purchase online with the programme being sent out to you the day before the game.
Food and drink in The J. Davidson Stadium
We know that many of you will want to get into the ground early and we’d encourage you to have a bite to eat with us. From pies to pasties, burgers, hot dogs, sausage rolls and chips, we’ve got plenty of options to keep you fed and watered. Given the fact you’re up north, it’s only right that there is gravy, curry sauce and mushy peas to accompany your meal.
There’s plenty of snacks and drinks to keep you going too, and yes, the emphasis is once again on keeping you warm. We haven’t yet gone to the lengths of providing you with a warm blanket, but our Hot Choc, Soups and Hot Vimto does the job!
How to get to The J .Davidson Stadium?
It is pretty simple to be honest whether on foot, on the roads or via public transport.
Metrolink Trams and Trains
We are pretty fortunate to be right at the end of the tram line so you’ll find yourself within a short walk of the ground if you get on any tram from in and around Manchester that has ALTRINCHAM as the destination.
Altrincham resides in Zone 4 of the Manchester Metrolink network. If you’re travelling from the city centre, you will need a day travelcard that covers zones 1, 2, 3 and 4.
No need to walk far to find a Metrolink stop, as the Altrincham line departs from Piccadilly train station itself.
If your train is arriving at Manchester’s Oxford Road or Deansgate stations, then you can use the St. Peter’s Square and Deansgate-Castlefield Metrolink stops, respectively.
There are a whole host of trains that come through Altrincham also and you can find live departure boards along with a journey planner here. Coming from Manchester, allow yourself 45 minutes to get to Altrincham and then a short walk to the ground.
You can also plan your journey with Transport for Greater Manchester here which also provides bus timetables too.
Driving
The address and post code to put in your sat nav is The J. Davidson Stadium, Moss Lane, Altrincham WA15 8AP. We are close to the M6, M56 and M62 so whether you are coming from the north, south, east or west, we are not far from any of those major motorways.
A shout out to our friends at Passenger Cars who offer a 24 Hour Private Hire Taxi Service that covers all of Trafford, South Manchester & East Cheshire.
On foot
From the heart of the town centre, the ground is between 10 and 15 minutes depending on your location. You ultimately need to find Moss Lane and which leads off one of the main streets in town. Follow Moss Lane past Stamford Park which you’ll find on the right…..when you’ll see the floodlights a bit further on and you will know you have just about made it!
Where to drink?
The Station hotel is popular among away fans as an ideal drop in right over the road from the train and tram station and is located just a 12-minute walk from the ground.
If that is still too far between rest breaks, then The King George is virtually next to the J. Davidson Stadium and is usually packed full of Robins fans. Don’t worry though, we are a friendly bunch and welcome the friendly banter.
Where to stay?
Coming to Alty for the day is absolutely fine, but it would be remiss of you not to come for the weekend or an extended stay if you can. If you’re looking for a good night’s sleep to break up the travel, then we know the perfect places for you.
We’ve got a Travelodge located in the centre of town with easy access to Manchester Airport for any international guests while the Marriott Hotel is situated just off the motorway complete with spa facilities and Tuscan-inspired dining.
Finally, the Best Western Cresta Court hotel with three superb banqueting suites and an extensive range of massage therapies if you really are going to treat yourself.
Best place to live 2020!
Described as where “suburbia meets utopia”, Altrincham was voted the best place to live in 2020 by The Times…..because it’s quite simply an awesome place to live!
Now, we’re not expecting you to up sticks and move to the area just because your beloved team is playing here but it is just as good a place to visit for the weekend!
With the renowned Alty market at the heart of the town, there is an abundance of community spirit on weekends with some of the country’s best eateries to grab your pre-match lunch including Honest Crust’s wood fired pizzas and the multi-award winning Great North Pie Co.
Opposite the market, is Blanchflower Bakery and Kitchen, the perfect place to grab a sensational brunch before the game or the morning after the night before!
Well, that pretty much wraps up our guide of Alty!
Whatever you decide to do, we look forward to welcoming you and seeing you at The J. Davidson Stadium this Saturday….may the best team win!
