Dover Athletic can confirm that due to fielding an ineligible player in the Kent Senior Cup second round match on 6 February we have been dismissed from the competition and Beckenham Town have been reinstated.

Prior to the game the player in question informed our management team that he had never played in the Kent Senior Cup. He also disclosed that he had never signed for Welling which was evident as this was not present on his registration form.

After the game the player had no knowledge of playing in Kent Senior Cup and thought he had only played in a ‘friendly’ for Welling. The players agent was also unaware that the player had played in the competition.

At no point did the management team have any idea of his involvement for Welling or playing in KSC prior to the game. The management team had no reason to check as the last club on his registration form was Brentford who do not take part in the competition.

We are very disappointed and would like to apologise to our fans that this has happened.

The Whites National League South fixture against Truro City has been rescheduled for Tuesday 16 April.

This away trip will now take place at Taunton Town’s Wordsworth Drive.

The club are delighted to be starting Girls Football sessions!

The sessions will be starting on Saturday 23^rd March and will be hosted on the Community Pitch at Crabble. Sessions will run from 10:15-11:15am for girls aged 11-16 years old.

Sessions are being run by FA qualified coaches at a cost of £4 per session.

Prior to our home game against Dartford on February 17^th, Dover Athletic confirmed the signing of Kai Neil-Gray, who signs permanently after impressing against Beckenham.

The Whites’ new attacking midfielder scored in the 0-4 win at Beckenham and impressed the manager so much so that he has signed permanently for the club.

In an interview with the new Dover man, Kai said he was “really excited” to get going and that he feels like he has already settled in with the squad well, having played against Beckenham already with the team and having been around the squad for a while already.

Neil-Gray also said that due to having partaken in training and having seen how the team plays and what the manager wants, he feels like he has settled in well already and is ready to hit the ground running.

Kai expressed his desire to give back to the fans for the remainder of the season and to show everyone what he is capable of. The new attacking midfielder also says he is capable of playing out wide on either flank which is something that the team will welcome.

The new number 24 also said he can “do a bit of everything” from tracking back to running in behind and being progressive with the ball, which is no doubt going to have a positive impact on the team.

Dover Athletic are aware of the allegations bought forward around fielding an ineligible player in the Kent Senior Cup second round match on 6 February.

The Kent FA are yet to receive our response and thus no confirmation of expulsion from the competition has been made.

A further club statement on the outcome of this will be released in due course.

Due to a new ground sharing agreement between Truro and Taunton Town our away fixture next Tuesday, February 13, against Truro will not take place on this date. The game will be rescheduled to a date to be confirmed, later in the season and be played at Taunton’s Wordsworth Drive Stadium.

We can confirm the departure of midfielder James Dunne, who has joined fellow Kent side Chatham Town.

We would like to thank Dunne for his efforts this season and wish him the best for the future.

Dover Athletic joins Alzheimer’s Society and football community to Support The Supporters with dementia diagnosis message

This week (w/c 22^nd January), Dover Athletic is backing Alzheimer’s Society’s Support The Supporters campaign, to encourage fans to support their loved ones by looking out for common signs of dementia and take the first steps in seeking a diagnosis. The campaign is being backed by clubs and organisations across the football pyramid, including The Football Association (FA), Premier League and League Managers Association, to help create a future where football is unforgettable.

Dementia is the UK’s biggest killer, with 1 in 3 people born today going on to develop it in their lifetime. But thousands are currently living with undiagnosed dementia, with too many people who still think dementia is just a sign of normal ageing, are unsure of the symptoms, and too afraid to visit their GP.

If fans have noticed any changes in themselves or their loved ones during the recent festive period, they can show their support by visiting alzheimers.org.uk/sports to use Alzheimer’s Society’s symptoms checklist and get further information on receiving a diagnosis. An early and accurate diagnosis unlocks access to treatment, care and support, allowing people to manage the condition and their lives, whilst planning for the future. An Alzheimer’s Society survey revealed that 91% of people affected by dementia saw clear benefits to getting a diagnosis, with many wishing they’d received one earlier.

Football is coming together at an especially busy time for Alzheimer’s Society, as people often spot changes in loved ones after seeing them for the first time in a while over the festive period. In fact, calls to the Alzheimer’s Society Dementia Support Line were up 19% in January 2023 compared to the 2022 monthly average, whilst registrations to the charity’s Dementia Support Forum were 29% higher than average.

Alzheimer’s Society has been The FA’s official charity partner since 2021 and has already made a tangible impact – raising over £740,000,and thousands more fans, players and staff now knowing where to go to access vital dementia support. This season, the partnership will also raise vital funds towards research that will help transform the future of dementia diagnosis, speeding up how quickly and how early we are able to diagnose dementia, changing the game for fans and players in years to come.
