Dover Athletic is giving women aged over 40 a shot at playing walking football at Crabble.

The first session will be held this Sunday, October 15 and the action kicks-off at 10am and finishes at 11.30am.

It will include an hour of football followed by refreshments in the Centre Spot.

The rules of the game are much the same as what we normally see played – however, there are some major differences.

Anything so much as a jog is prohibited for a start!!

Teams playing are also smaller, with between five and seven players a-side.

Other rules include free kicks are indirect, kick-ins replace throws, there are no offsides and the ball must be kept below head height.

The first five weeks will also be FREE of charge.

So, come along and have a go at playing!

The Football in the Community Team have been very busy delivering quality football coaching to all ages.

With the vital help of our community volunteers, Deb and Paul Harrison, we have been providing a variety of projects to the local community.

Happy Feet Soccer School

The Saturday morning Soccer School is still proving to be very popular. Children between the ages of five to 16 can turn up and join in for just £3 a session and it is not compulsory to turn up every week.

The Community Team delivered nine full days of Soccer fun during the Summer holidays, spanning over three weeks. Coaches and children alike had a great time using their soccer skills as well as their ‘brains’ solving puzzles. No tears were seen during these sessions (well apart from a couple of the male coaches!!)

A big thank you to two of our first team players, Jamie Allen and Kane Richards, for attending, handing out certificates and making the children’s day.

Another thank you goes to Captain Crab who side stepped along to the presentations.

 Walking Football (Men 50+)

This great initiative was set up in February with the help of coaches Graham and Richard who give up their Sunday mornings to work alongside this energetic bunch of chaps (the fun and laughter can be heard for miles).

Its not all fun though, they arrive at the Centre Spot after an hours training and a game of football, for a well earned cup of tea and choccie biscuits along with some social time and a catch up.

Dover Athletic Football Club are now recruiting for a very special position – the chance to become our new club mascot!

You will be the first point of contact with many of our supporters and will have a natural ability to entertain, whilst building relationships and rapport – primarily with children – during both matchdays and at other community events.

Interaction with the crowd at all times is paramount, and you will need to be reliable, punctual and organised.

A positive attitude to dealing with children and adults is imperative, and you must be capable of working independently whilst meeting a range of responsibilities relating to matchday events such as our new pre-match penalty shoot-out and general fan engagement.

This opportunity is open to adults of all ages and genders, however you must be physically fit and able to work on your feet for several hours at a time in a busy environment whilst maintaining the professional standards we are looking for.

The successful applicant must be between 5”7 and 5”10 tall, and will initially work on a trial period of three months – attending all home fixtures – with a view to paid employment with our community scheme being offered at the end of this term.

You will need to undergo a full CRB check prior to taking on the role.

Thinking of ideas to keep your children active in the summer holidays?

Why not book them on a Happy Feet Soccer School coaching camp at Crabble.

Three camps have been organised with 50 places available on each of them, so get in quick!

The camps, which will cater for ages from five to 16, will be run from 10am – 3pm on the following dates:

• Week 1 (7,8,9 August)
• Week 2 (15,16,17 August) 
• Week 3 (23,24,25 August) 

The cost is £12 per child, per day and bookings are subject to availability and places are only guaranteed upon receipt of full payment.

With a new season rapidly approaching, the club are looking for volunteers to assist with a ‘spring clean’ of Crabble.

The clean-up takes place this weekend between 10am and 4pm on Saturday and Sunday.
