The husband and wife team of Paul and Debbie Harrison have won the Dover Athletic Club Person of the Year award.

They were presented with their award at Crabble by club director Matthew Jaenicke.

Jaenicke.said: “Paul and Debbie’s dedication season after season has been unwavering and they thoroughly deserve this accolade.

“They put in a tremendous amount of work helping with all community projects, community days and of course looking after the mascots and helping with all visitors to Crabble at every home game.

“We thank them for all they do.”

As for Paul, he said he and his wife are just happy to play their roles at the club.

He said: “We just do whatever we can to help.

“We just love to see the progress the club is making, we enjoy being involved and part of the club.

“It’s great to see the kids enjoying themselves at Happy Feet on a Saturday morning with around 50 there each week now.

“We love making sure the mascots have a great day and we really enjoy the interaction with everybody from the board to the players and the supporters.”

Happy Feet Soccer School have organised two football courses to take place at Crabble during the Easter Holidays on the following dates;

• Monday 3^rd and Tuesday 4^th April 2017 – ages 5-9 years                      
• Thursday 6^th and Friday 7^th April 2017 – ages 10-16 years

The cost of the course is £12 per child, per day.   

All courses run from 10am – 3pm .  Children should arrive no earlier than 9.50am for registration.

Children will need to bring a packed lunch and drinks.

Shin pads must be worn at all times.

Spare/warm clothing is advised should we have bad weather as well as sun cream and a hat should it be sunny.

To book a place for your child, you need to sign a confirmation and consent form and return it to Dover Athletic Football Club.

Long time Dover fan Nick Cunningham has continued to show his support for the club – and his generosity could save a life.

The local businessman – who owns Nick Cunningham Plumbing and Heating Engineers, based in Sandwich – has brought a defibrillator for use in the community ventures running.

The club already has one defibrillator in the medical facilities at Crabble for use on players or fans on match days, but there was a need for another as Dover Athletic Community Manager Vikki Pawley explains.

“Due to the rise in community projects we have running at the ground now, Saturday and school holiday soccer schools and the walking football, we felt we needed a second defibrillator at the ground,” she said.

“After discussing this need in the sponsors lounge last week, Nick Cunningham has stepped forward and generously bought us one for the community projects.”

As for Nick, he was simply happy to help his beloved club.

He said: “Hopefully, the club will never have to use it, but at least we now have a second one in place should the need arise.”

The new machine will be presented by Nick to the club at Saturday’s National League game against Solihull Moors.

PLENTY of men took their first steps in a new Dover Athletic venture at Crabble on Sunday morning – walking football.

Over 20 men aged over 50 had a shot at playing the game.

The opening session of the project, which is run in conjunction with Dover District Council, attracted plenty of interest from those who thought their playing days were over.

The aim of the programme is to engage with the community to provide an opportunity for men aged 50+ to become more socially and physically active.

Each Sunday session starts at 10am and finishes at 11.30am.

The first five weeks will also be FREE of charge , so come along and have a go at playing!

The rules of the game are much the same as what we know – however, there are some differences.

Anything so much as a jog is prohibited for a start!!

Other rules include free kicks are indirect, kick-ins replace throws, there are no offsides and the ball must be kept below head height.

Dover Athletic is offering a chance for men over 50 to get out of their armchairs and back into playing football.

Working in conjunction with Dover District Council, we will be soon be starting a walking football project at Crabble.
