PREVIEW: WHITES V WOKING

Dover will be aiming for victory on Tuesday night after two points were snatched away by a last-gasp equaliser from Maidenhead at Crabble on Saturday.

But Chris Kinnear’s side go into the game unbeaten in six league matches, winning and drawing three apiece over that period.

Anthony Limbrick’s men travel down with two wins from their last three away league games.

And home fans might recognise a couple of familiar faces on show.

Richard Orlu made 124 appearances over four seasons for Whites and Matt Young featured during the 2015/16 season.

Please note, this game will be SEGREGATED.

WOKING’S RECENT FORM

BROMLEY 2-0 WOKING

Two goals just before half-time saw the Ravens win three points at Hayes Lane against ten-man Woking.

Jack Holland and Josh Rees both found the net from set-pieces and the visitors hopes of a second half comeback were dashed when Kane Ferdinand was sent off for a dangerous challenge two minutes after the restart.

The opening goal arrived on 42 minutes, Holland steering home Adam Mekki’s free-kick after Cards keeper Nathan Baxter misjudged the flight of the ball.

And Mekki assisted the home side’s second goal three minutes later, crossing for an unmarked Rees to head home.

Bromley stopper David Gregory tipped away Joe Ward’s late curling effort to keep a third clean sheet on the spin.

PREVIOUS MEETING

28/02/17: WOKING 1-0 DOVER

Whites four-game National League unbeaten run came to an end on a disappointing night at the Kingfield Stadium on a Tuesday night.

Max Kretzschmar’s second half tap-in was the difference between the sides, but Chris Kinnear’s men remained in fifth spot at the final whistle.

Woking keeper Michael Poke denied Joe Healy in the 34th minute, spectacularly tipping the midfielder’s long-range strike onto the bar.

An unmarked Ricky Modeste should have given the visitors the lead before the break, but he headed Aswad Thomas’ pin-point cross wide from close range.

Ismail Yakubu headed against his own crossbar, but it was the hosts who went ahead with their first shot on target.

Sub Charlie Carter turned Jake Caprice’s cross into Kretzschmar’s path to leave him with the easiest of tap-ins.

Athletic pressed for a leveller, but the home side held firm to move two places clear of the bottom four.

MAGPIES STRIKE LATE TO DENY WHITES

DOVER 1-1 MAIDENHEAD UNITED
(Bird 76)      (Hyde 90)

JAKE Hyde’s last minute tap-in denied Whites a fourth consecutive league home win at a wet and windy Crabble on Saturday.

The striker pounced at the death to tap in sub Adrian Clifton’s knock down following Rene Steer’s run and cross.

Ryan Bird’s header seemed to have secured the win for Chris Kinnear’s side.  The striker headed sub Kadell Daniel’s deep cross back across visiting keeper Carl Pentney and into the net via the post.

Moses Emmanuel fired over a volley from close-range and Dean Inman had the game’s first shot on target, heading a long throw straight at Dover keeper Mitch Walker.

The home stopper was then quick off his line to grab the ball from Emmanuel after Hyde’s cross deflected into the striker’s path.

Mitch Brundle tricked past his marker, but his low curling effort was comfortably held by Pentney.  Dover’s skipper then let fly from twenty-yards, this time narrowly missing the post.

Walker beat away Alan Massey’s tight drive and Hyde blazed wide after following up on Inman’s initial shot, which deflected into his path.

Mitch Pinnock’s low goalbound drive was cleared away by Massey and Manny Parry nodded a corner from the winger wide shortly after.

Jake Goodman’s turn and shot seemed to catch Walker off-guard, with the ball striking the bar and bouncing over much to the relief of the Whites keeper.

Bird opened the scoring and Dover had further opportunities to seal victory.

Daniel struck the outside of the post with a vicious twenty-five yard drive and Paul Lewis aimed too high with a shot from outside the box.

Bird fired into the side-netting and then flicked Daniel’s pass the wrong side of the post with Pentney beaten.

But Hyde had the final say with the last kick of the game following a scramble in the box.

Earlier, boss Kinnear made three changes to the side that started at Bromley on Tuesday night.  James Alabi made his debut having signed on-loan from Tranmere Rovers, with Loui Fazakerley and Lewis also starting.

Nortey Nortey and Daniel started as substitutes, with Giancarlo Gallifuoco missed out though injury.

Dover: Walker, Fazakerley, Essam, Parry, Passley, Brundle(c), Lewis, Ilesanmi, Pinnock (Daniel 71), Bird, Alabi (Richards 87).

Subs not used: Okosieme, Nortey, Deen-Conteh.

Maidenhead: Pentney, Massey(c), Inman, Goodman, Peters (Kilman 33), Odametey (Upward 78), Smith, Pritchard, Steer, Emmanuel (Clifton 71), Hyde.

Subs not used: Barratt, Mulley.

ALABI JOINS DOVER

Dover Athletic are delighted to announce the loan signing of striker James Alabi from Tranmere Rovers.

The 22-year-old England C representative will go straight into the squad for Saturday’s National League game against Maidenhead United.

Alabi, who will wear the No.19 shirt, joined Tranmere from fellow National League side Chester FC last July and has made nine appearances this season.

During his 18 months with Chester, Alabi scored 23 goals in 53 appearances.

He was club’s leading goalscorer with 17 league goals to his name last season – one of those goals was against Dover in Chester’s 3-1 loss at Crabble in January.

Alabi came through the Academy system at Stoke City, where he shared a house with now Dover defender Manny Parry, and had loan spells at Scunthorpe United, Mansfield Town and Accrington Stanley while he was with the Premier League side.

After leaving Stoke, Alabi joined Ipswich Town at the beginning of the 2015-16 season after impressing during a trial and scored on his debut for The Tractor Boys in a 4-1 victory at Doncaster Rovers in the League Cup.

Midway through that season, he left Portman Road to join Chester FC.

Welcome to Crabble James!

PREVIEW: WHITES V MAIDENHEAD

  1. Dover will be aiming to bounce back to winning ways following their midweek FA Cup exit away at Bromley when they tackle Maidenhead at Crabble on Saturday.

Whites go into the game unbeaten in five league matches and have not conceded in their last three matches at home.

Alan Devonshire’s United have adjusted well to life in the National League after winning promotion from the National South, sitting 12th in the standings with 22 points.

However, the Magpies have suffered defeat in their last two away games, losing 2-0 at Chester and 4-0 at Torquay.

Former Dover winger Moses Emmanuel joined Maidenhead on a two-month loan earlier this week.

MAIDENHEAD’S RECENT FORM

MAIDENHEAD 2-1 HAVANT & WATERLOOVILLE

The Magpies left it late to win their FA Cup fourth round qualifier.

Ryan Upward run onto Jake Hyde’s flick-on and smashed home an injury-time winner to confirm his side’s spot in the first round proper.

United had earlier taken the lead on 23 minutes thanks to Sam Barratt’s powerful left-footed drive and home goalie Carl Pentney preserved the lead with a point-blank save from Theo Lewis’ header.

Havant levelled four minutes after the break thanks to Jason Prior.

The striker pounced on a poor clearance by Max Kilman to level the scores following a volleyed effort from Jordan Rose

But Upward had the final say to set up a first round clash away at Coventry City.

PREVIOUS MEETING

15/03/14: MAIDENHEAD 1-2 DOVER

Ricky Modeste curled home a brilliant last-minute winner as Whites took all three points at York Road.

The substitute cut inside Leon Soloman and fired in from the edge of the box to inflict a fourth consecutive home defeat on United.

Tom Murphy skipped away from Mark Nisbet to slot past home stopper Yannick Nlate on eight minutes, but Adrian Clifton levelled moments later for the Magpies.

The midfielder header Brett Longden’s deep cross past keeper Mitch Walker to net his second goal in as many games.

Richard Pacquette thumped a second-half effort just wide for the hosts, but it was Modeste who had the final say with a stunning late strike.

VIDEO: MANAGER REACTION

Boss Chris Kinnear has his say following Whites 3-0 loss away at Bromley in Tuesday night’s Emirates FA Cup fourth qualifying round replay.

WHITES LOSE CUP REPLAY

EMIRATES FA CUP FOURTH ROUND QUALIFYING REPLAY

BROMLEY 3-0 DOVER

Whites were sent crashing out of the FA Cup after conceding three second-half goals at Hayes Lane on Tuesday evening.

Two quick-fire strikes from Josh Rees and Adam Mekki had the hosts  in control and sub Louis Dennis slotted home in injury time to seal the win.

Chris Kinnear’s men were dealt a further blow as Giancarlo Gallifuoco and Josh Passley were forced off at half-time with injuries.

Both sides went on the attack early on, but shots from Nortei Nortey and Mekki were straight at their opposition goalkeepers.

Connor Essam’s through-ball then released Mitch Pinnock, but the midfielder blasted over when bearing down on goal .

Kadell Daniel picked out Mitch Brundle in the area, but the skipper’s first-time volley flew over both home keeper David Gregory and the crossbar.

Daniel then tried to score himself, smashing a spectacular overhead kick wide of the post.

Boss Kinnear was forced into a half-time change following an unfortunate injury to Gallifuoco.

The Australian bravely stooped low to head the ball in the Bromley box, but suffered concussion after colliding with an opponent.

Passley was also withdrawn prior to the restart, with Loui Fazakerley and Kane Richards introduced to the action as Whites opted for a more attacking formation after the break.

And the changes almost had an immediate impact as Pinnock’s low drive glided past the wrong side of the post.

Mekki went close with two headers.  Firstly nodding over Luke Wanadio’s cross and then glancing straight into the arms of Mitch Walker.

Ryan Bird was on hand to clear Jack Holland’s bullet header off the line as Bromley forced a number of corners.

And the home side did not have to wait much longer to make a set piece count.

Frankie Sutherland’s 70th minute corner was directed into the top corner by Rees, in-spite of visiting stopper Walker’s best efforts to keep the ball out.

Mekki grabbed his side’s second three minutes later, latching onto Holland’s pass and after evading Connor Essam’s challenge, curled in off the crossbar.

Bird headed Pinnock’s free kick at Gregory and with time running out, Neil Smith’s side sealed the win thanks to substitute Dennis.

The attacker exchanged passes with Rees and slotted past Walker to confirm their first round tie at League One Rochdale next month

Earlier manager Kinnear named an unchanged line-up from Saturday’s match.

Dover are back to league action on Saturday 21st October with Maidenhead United the visitors to Crabble. Kick off 3pm.

Bromley: Gregory, Dunne (Wynter 85), Rees, Holland(c), Raymond, Mekki, Higgs, D.Johnson, Sterling, Wanadio (Allen 90), R.Johnson (Dennis 71).

Dover: Walker, Passley (Richards 45), Gallifuoco (Fazakerley 45), Essam, Parry, Ilesanmi,Brundle(c), Nortey (Deen-Conteh 84), Pinnock, Bird, Daniel.
