PREVIEW: WHITES V HALIFAX

Whites will be looking to extend their unbeaten home run to three matches when they host Jamie Fullarton’s Town on Saturday.

Athletic drew 1-1 with Boreham Wood on Tuesday night to add to a 3-0 win against Braintree Town a fortnight ago.

However they entertain a team in good form this weekend.

The Shaymen are unbeaten in six National League matches, a run that has seen the West Yorkshire side rise to 14th in the division and nine points away from the bottom four.

A mean defence has been one of the main reason’s for Halifax’s recent results and they conceded for the first time in just over 450 minutes in their 1-1 draw with Barnet on Tuesday night.

Dover will be looking to bounce back to winning ways in the National League on Tuesday evening.

Having been two goals ahead with twenty minutes remaining on Saturday, Andy Hessenthaler’s men lost 3-2 at Hartlepool.

However other results mean Dover are still four points ahead of the relegation zone.

Boreham Wood, four points ahead of Athletic in 17th on the league ladder, have an impressive record at Crabble and have won four of their last six matches at Whites’ home.

Luke Garrard’s men recently ended their own recent poor record on the road.

Wood won 2-0 at Bromley earlier this month to end a 12-match winless streak away from home, started after a 4-0 win at Sutton United back in September.

Home fans might recognise a couple of familiar faces when Wood arrive at Crabble.

Defenders Femi Ilesanmi and Manny Parry were with Athletic last season.  Both players featured in 45 matches each for Dover, with Parry scoring five times and Ilesanmi finding the net twice.

PREVIEW: HARTLEPOOL V WHITES

Athletic will aim to continue an impressive statistic when they make the 323-mile trip north on Saturday.

You see Whites’ have a 100% record against Pool, with Jamie Allen’s first-half goal in August 2017 the difference on Dover’s only ever visit to The Super Six Stadium.

Craig Hignett became United’s third manager of the season in January, replacing Richard Money, overseeing an upturn in form with just one loss during his six matches in charge

Hignett will want to improve Hartlepool’s record of one home win in 2019 – a 2-1 win against Braintree Town on 26th January – his first game of his third spell as Hartlepool boss.

And former Middlesbrough and Aberdeen player Hignett added some Premier league experience to his side earlier this week.

Canada international David Edgar made a total of 23 appearances in England’s top flight during spells with Newcastle United and Burnley.

The defender returns to the UK after playing in the United Soccer League for Nashville FC and Ottawa Fury.

One of Dover’s management team, a former Premiership player himself, will be familiar with his surroundings this weekend.

First team coach Nicky Southall started his professional career at Hartlepool and played 138 times from 1991-95, scoring 24 goals.

PREVIEW: WHITES V BRAINTREE

Dover will be looking to start March with a win on Saturday to give their National League survival chances a boost.

February was not a good month for Athletic as Andy Hessenthaler’s men suffered three losses in four league games, including back-to-back defeats at Crabble, matches in which Gateshead and Harrogate both scored injury-time winners.

Bottom-of-the-table Braintree will arrive in Kent looking to end a poor run of form on their travels.

The Iron have not won away in the league since a 4-2 victory at Bromley on 30th October, however will be buoyed by recent home triumphs over Salford (1-0) and Barnet (4-0).

Home fans might recognise a familiar face in the visiting squad this weekend.

PREVIEW: MAIDENHEAD V WHITES

The battle to avoid the drop heats up on Saturday as Athletic travel to Berkshire to face the Magpies.

Both sides will have been bouyed by impressive wins at promotion-chasing sides a week ago.

Alan Devonshire’s men won 1-0 at Leyton Orient while Athletic were 3-1 victors at ambitious Salford City.

Maidenhead now sit 18th on the National League ladder, three points above the relegation trapdoor and just a single point ahead of 20th placed Dover.

The Magpies will be desperate to improve their recent home form, having accrued seven points from their last 10 matches at York Road, though they were winners in their last home match – a 1-0 triumph over Boreham Wood on February 9th to make it make it back-to-back league wins.

It’s now four league games without victory for Dover but Salford are also on their own winless run in the National League.

Draws with Halifax and Gateshead were followed by a surprise loss at bottom-of-the-table Braintree Town last week, which saw Graham Alexander’s men drop to fifth spot in the league table, six points off leaders Solihull Moors, but with a game in hand on the current leaders.

Harrogate were 2-1 victors in the FA Trophy tie on 12th January.  Inih Effiong had Athletic ahead early on, however a strike in each half from Jack Muldoon sent Simon Weaver’s men into the third round.

Currently three points above the bottom four and having played at least one more match than the teams below them, Whites’ will be looking to secure a first win in three National League matches on Saturday.

PREVIEW: WHITES V GATESHEAD

Dover will be aiming to get back to winning ways after two consecutive league draws and go into Saturday’s match with an impressive home record against the Heed.

Whites have won the last four meetings between the two sides at Crabble, including a thrilling 3-2 win back in April to keep Athletic’s slim play-off hopes alive at the end of last season.

Gateshead have a stat of their own they will be looking to eradicate with the Tyne and Wear side arriving in Kent still searching for their first victory of 2019.

However, Ben Clark, installed as manager last month following Steve Watson’s decision to join National League North York City, has yet to taste defeat with draws against Salford City and Boreham Wood in his two games in charge.

Clark has some Premier League experience he can call upon this weekend in the form of Mike Williamson.

The 35-year-old defender, who made his debut for Gateshead in a 2-1 win against Dover back in August, featured 134 times for Newcastle United in England’s top flight and was appointed as Heed player / coach last month.

PREVIEW: HAVANT V WHITES

Alfie Pavey’s first half goal was the difference in the FA Trophy first round replay on Tuesday 8th January, however with Dover also out of the cup competition, the focus for opposition bosses Andy Hessenthaler and Lee Bradbury is National League survival.

Both sides, currently 18th (Havant) and 19th, (Dover) are separated by goal difference on the National League ladder and will be aiming to put extra distance between themselves and the bottom four.

Athletic travel to a team in fine form on their own patch.

PREVIEW: WHITES V BROMLEY

Two in-form National League sides meet at Crabble this Saturday afternoon.

Andy Hessenthaler’s Dover have won their last three consecutive league matches and are unbeaten in six league games at Crabble.

Neil Smith’s men have won their last four league matches, however their 3-0 win at Havant in their last away match was their first National League victory on the road since a winning 1-0 at Maidstone United on 6th October.

Home fans might recognise a couple of familiar faces when the Ravens take to the field this weekend.

Winger Adam Mekki featured once for Whites in 2015 and Bromley fitness coach Ben May netted 21 goals in 40 games for Athletic during their 2012-13 National League South campaign.

Please note the match will be segregated.
