PREVIEW: HAVANT & WATERLOOVILLE

Whites are back at Crabble on Tuesday night looking to secure their first win of the current National League campaign.

Luke Armstrong’s late winner meant Chris Kinnear’s men have picked up a solitary point from their first three games.

And Dover face a side still also waiting for their victory of the season.

Having secured back-to-back promotions, Lee Bradbury’s Hawks have picked up two points thus far, drawing with both Boreham Wood (0-0) and Fylde (1-1) following an opening day defeat at Barrow (0-3).

HAVANT PLAYER TO WATCH

Nicke Kabamba notched his side’s first goal in the National League on Saturday.  The former Portsmouth striker, who scored against Whites’ at Crabble for Aldershot last season, levelled in the home game with Fylde with a stunning 25-yard strike.

WHAT THE GAFFERS SAY

DOVER BOSS CHRIS KINNEAR

”It’s a very important game, but they all are.  Havant have gone up twice on the bounce and are used to winning, so our lads must not think they are in for an easy game, because it won’t be.”

HAVANT BOSS LEE BRADBURY

”Dover is always a tough place to go and they are now an experienced side at this level.  They are the sort of team we want to replicate, they went up four years ago and are now pushing every year to get in the play-offs if not promotion.”

PREVIEW: GATESHEAD V WHITES

Dover travel to Tyne and Wear on Saturday hoping to build on Tuesday night’s encouraging display at Bromley.

A late penalty denied Chris Kinnear’s men all three points, but Athletic’s boss will no doubt be impressed with his side’s level of performance in the 2-2 draw at Hayes Lane.

However, this weekend’s opponents Gateshead, tipped by many to struggle in the National League this campaign following a decision to go part-time, start Saturday’s game with a maximum points tally so far.

Steve Watson’s men followed up an opening 3-1 win at Maidenhead with a 2-1 win home against Salford City in midweek.

WHAT THE GAFFERS SAY

DOVER ASSISTANT JAKE LEBERL

“Gateshead have gone with a younger squad this season, which can sometimes help as it allows their boss to create his thing there now.  They have started really well and we are expecting a very difficult game.”

GATESHEAD BOSS STEVE WATSON

“Dover will be a different type of challenge than Salford, but saying that they were using the same tactics that Dover might do on Saturday.  We showed on Tuesday night we can play football when we really want to.”

GATESHEAD PLAYER TO WATCH

Striker Luke Armstrong, son of former Premier League striker Alun, has hit three goals in his side’s two opening two National League fixtures, including a double on his competive home debut against Salford City.

PREVIEW: BROMLEY V WHITES

Whites make the short trip to Hayes Lane on Tuesday night aiming to bounce back from an opening day defeat.

Chris Kinnear’s men lost by a single goal in their National League opener at home to Wrexham on Saturday and will hope they can achieve a result they were unable to last campaign.

Dover and Bromley played eachother four times last season, with Athletic losing and drawing twice in those matches.

Neil Smith’s Bromley will also be aiming to recover from their own disappointing start to the season following a 2-1 defeat at Fylde.

Jordan Higgs’ fine second half finish cancelled out Andy Bond’s earlier tap-in.  However Danny Rowe’s winner 20 minutes from time handed Dave Challinor’s side the three points.

WHAT THE GAFFERS SAY

DOVER BOSS CHRIS KINNEAR

“Obviously we will look at how we did against Wrexham and also how Bromley did.  We will be in for training Monday to prepare for Tuesday night.

“Saturday was part of our learning process, especially with so many young lads on the pitch.  Hopefully the players have learnt from the last game and we can get a result at Bromley.”

BROMLEY BOSS NEIL SMITH

“We know what we did wrong against Fylde and we will look to put that right on Tuesday night.  Dover will be a difficult game, they are strong and direct and there are no surprises about we are coming into.

“But we will prepare for the game as normal and with our home crowd behind us, hopefully we can get our first win of the season.”

BROMLEY PLAYER TO WATCH

Roger Johnson brings a lot of experience to the Bromley defence.  The 35-year-old played 107 Premier League games for Birmingham, Wolves and West Ham.

And Chris Kinnear’s men will be aiming to maintain an impressive stat against the North Wales side.

Athletic are yet to lose in eight previous meetings with The Dragons, winning four and drawing four.

‘They are competitive every year and will want to go one better this season, but so do we and we won’t be any less inspired to do well.’

WREXHAM BOSS SAM RICKETTS
