PARRY PINCHES POINT FOR WHITES

SUTTON 2-2 DOVER

MANNY Parry scored a dramatic injury-time equaliser to grab a point for Athletic in an exciting encounter at the Knight’s Community Stadium on Tuesday night.

The defender reacted quickest in the box to fire home after Connor Essam had headed sub Kane Richards’ deep cross back into the goalmouth.

Chris Kinnear’s men had taken a first-half lead through Giancarlo Gallifuoco’s smart turn and shot, but two stunning strikes from Tommy Wright and Keiron Cadogan after the break put the hosts in front until Parry struck.

The visitors started brightly with Ryan Bird heading Josh Passley’s pin-point cross wide and Paul Lewis firing past the post via a deflection.

Home keeper Jamie Butler was out quickly to block Jamie Allen after the forward found himself in space, with Bird’s follow-up cleared off the line.

The stopper then acrobatically tipped away Femi Ilesanmi’s header as Whites continued to press.

And that pressure paid off as Gallifuoco struck on 36 minutes.

The Australian controlled Mitch Pinnock’s free-kick, before swivelling and firing past a helpless Butler to grab his third of the season.

Mitch Walker had to tip over United’s first shot on target – a set-piece from Simon Walton just before half-time.

Following the restart, Gallifuoco drove forward and tested Butler with a low drive and Sutton manager Paul Doswell introduced striker Wright from the bench on 68 minutes.

And the substitute made an immediate impact, arrowing a volley into the top corner from the edge of the box two minutes after entering the action.

Ross Lafayette tested Walker moments later with a stinging drive, but the host’s turnaround was complete on 80 minutes.

Cadogan’s 20-yard volley flew through a crowded area and flashed past Walker before the Dover stopper could react.

But Parry had the final say as Whites dropped one place in the table, a point behind new leaders Macclesfield Town.

Earlier, boss Kinnear made one change to the side that beat Solihull Moors on Saturday.  Allen started in place of Kadell Daniel, who started as a substitute.

Athletic’s next league match sees them travel to Torquay United on Saturday 7th October. Kick off 3pm.

Sutton: Butler, Spence (Bailey 60), Collins, John, A.Thomas, Walton (Dundas 54), Eastmond, Cadogan, Taylor, Jeffery (Wright 67), Lafayette.

Subs not used: Emmanuel, K.Thomas.

Dover: Walker, Passley, Gallifuoco, Parry, Essam, Ilesanmi, Brundle, Lewis, Pinnock (Richards 85), Bird (Sho-Silva 75), Allen (Daniel 73).

Subs not used: Fazakerley, Nortey.

Referee:  Richard Hulme

Attendance:  2,206

PREVIEW: SUTTON V WHITES

Dover visit the Knights Community Stadium this Tuesday evening aiming to stay at the summit of the National League table.

And Chris Kinnear’s men travel to third-placed Sutton unbeaten in three matches, with two wins and one draw.

United are only one point behind Whites in the standings and Paul Doswell’s side is likely to include some familiar faces.

Ross Lafayette, Aswad Thomas and Moses Emmanuel all featured for Athletic last season.

SUTTON’S RECENT FORM

WREXHAM 1 – 1 SUTTON

Ross Lafayette scored a stunning injury-time equaliser to deny their hosts victory at the Racecourse Ground.

The striker took advantage of a poor defensive clearance to volley in off the crossbar and cancel out Marcus Kelly’s first-half goal.

The midfielder finished off Chris Holroyd’s accurate cross on 16 minutes to put Wrexham in front and Holroyd himself glanced Paul Rutherford’s cross narrowly wide just before the break.

Kieron Cadogan struck the bar for the visitors, but Sutton were able to salvage a point thanks to Lafayette’s late strike.

PREVIOUS MEETING

29/11/16: SUTTON 0-6 WHITES

Dover rose into the play-offs in spectacular fashion after a sumptious footballing display at Gander Green Lane.

Ricky Miller, Ross Lafayette and Moses Emmanuel were on the scoresheet as Chris Kinnear’s men recorded a comfortable victory against ten-man United.

Miller headed in Sam Magri’s cross early on and Sutton’s Dean Beckwith was shown a red card for a deliberate elbow on Jamie Grimes on 23 minutes.

Emmanuel raced clear to double the lead ten minutes later and after Lafayette had volleyed in Athletic’s third moments later, went on to complete his hat-trick in style with two further goals.

The forward slotted home his second and ensured the match ball was his after the break, finishing smartly from outside the area after beating home keeper Ross Worner in a race to the ball.

Top scorer Miller completed the rout, cutting inside and smashing low past Worner.

PREVIEW: WHITES V SOLIHULL MOORS

It’s Community Day at Crabble this Saturday and Dover will hope they can return to top spot with victory in front of a bumper crowd.

Athletic’s opponents Solihull have lost their last three matches on the road and Chris Kinnear’s side will be aiming to make it back-to-back home wins following their 4-0 rout of Chester just under a fortnight ago.

But Moors boss Liam MacDonald has recently strengthened his squad by adding left-back Joe Payne on a one-month loan from Barnet and forward Richard Brodie.

Much-travelled striker Brodie has plenty of National League experience, having featured for 11 different clubs in non-league’s top tier.

Whites currently sit third on the ladder, one point behind current leaders Sutton United.

SOLIHULL’S RECENT FORM

SOLIHULL MOORS 2 – 2 DAGENHAM & REDBRIDGE

Jake Howell scored a stoppage-time equaliser as Dagenham & Redbridge rescued a point at the Automated Technology Group Stadium.

The away team were ahead on six minutes when Mason Bloomfield headed in Andre Boucaud’s free-kick.

But Dapo Afolayan sent in a cross for Darren Carter to level matters five minutes later and completed the turnaround himself with a 25-yard effort in the 40th minute.

Howell struck at the death to punish Liam McDonald’s men for not extending their lead.

The draw leaves Solihull 23rd in the standings on eight points.

PREVIOUS MEETING

04/03/17: WHITES 0-0 SOLIHULL MOORS

Dover failed to score at Crabble for the first time this season after being held to a scoreless draw by Liam McDonald’s men.

For the visitors, Ashley Sammons shot whistled past Steve Arnold’s post and Joel Kettle headed wide from a free-kick.

Nathan Baxter tipped over Ricky Miller’s drive on the half-hour mark and the away stopper was forced to pedal backwards to stop Ricky Modeste’s cross going straight in.

Baxter was certainly the busier of the two keepers and he denied Aswad Thomas with his legs from close range.

The young goalkeeper, on-loan to Moors from Chelsea, ensured his team left with a point by palming over Ross Lafayette’s late towering header.

PREVIEW: GUISELEY V WHITES

Dover will be looking to continue their good form on the road when they travel to West Yorkshire on Saturday.

Chris Kinnear’s men have picked up 12 points from a possible 15 on their travels this season and boast an impressive record at Nethermoor Park.

Whites have won at Guiseley on all three previous visits and done it without conceding a goal.

But a tough test is likely following the appointment of Paul Cox as Lions manager earlier this month.

Cox’s side are unbeaten since the former Barrow boss replaced Adam Lockwood in charge, with three draws from as many games.

GUISELEY’S RECENT FORM

WREXHAM 1 – 1 GUISELEY

Sam Wedgebury’s scorcher deep into stoppage time denied Paul Cox’s men their first win on the road this season.

Raul Correia helped in Will Hatfield’s deflected effort shortly before the half-hour mark to stun the home crowd.

Kayode Odejayi should have made the game safe, but headed over from close-in.

With 96 minutes on the clock, a hurried Guiseley clearance fell invitingly for Wedgebury and the midfielder made no mistake from the edge of the area.

The draw leaves Guiseley 22nd in the table on eight points.

PREVIOUS MEETING

25/03/17: GUISELEY 0-4 WHITES

Ricky Miller scored twice as Dover boosted their play-off hopes with a resounding win at Nethermoor Park.

The National League’s top scorer opened the scoring on 15 minutes, turning well and slotting into the bottom corner.

Miller hit the post after the break, but the lead was doubled on 67 minutes when Ricky Modeste headed in from close range.

With nine minutes remaining, Miller converted a penalty after being felled in the box and Ross Lafayette added a spot-kick of his own in stoppage time.

PREVIEW: WHITES V SITTINGBOURNE FC

Sittingbourne FC visit Crabble tonight as Dover start their defence of the Kent Reliance Senior Cup.

Whites lifted the trophy in May, beating Welling United 2-0 in the final in Maidstone.

Boss Chris Kinnear is expected to name a much changed side for the Round Two clash, with those that started Saturday’s home National League win over Chester likely to be rested.

Opponents Sittingbourne beat Faversham 2-1 in the last round, thanks to a stoppage-time winner from sub Keanu Williams.

Sam Berwick had headed the home side in front before the break, with Jono Richardson levelling for the Brickies shortly after the hour mark.

Sittingbourne are currently fifth in the Bostik South standings.

The kicks-off at 7.45pm and the club have reduced the admission price for the game down to just £5 for adults, while under-11s get in for free.

PREVIEW: WHITES V CHESTER FC

Dover will be aiming to bounce back from defeat in midweek when managerless Chester visit Crabble on Saturday.

A solitary goal just before the break handed Boreham Wood the points on Tuesday evening, leaving boss Chris Kinnear’s men with just one home win so far this campaign.

Chester have an identical record on the road this season and last tasted victory five games ago, winning 2-1 at Aldershot.

Player/caretaker boss Tom Shaw looks set to take the reins for a third match running, following the dismissal of previous manager Jon McCarthy just over a fortnight ago.

The Seals have drawn one and lost one of the midfielder’s two games in charge.

CHESTER FC’S RECENT FORM

GATESHEAD 3 – 2 CHESTER FC

A stoppage-time winner saw The Heed earn a thrilling home victory over Chester.

The visitors thought they had levelled two minutes into injury time after Matty Waters found the net with a long range strike, but visiting keeper Conor Mitchell failed to stop the ball finding the net following confusion from a corner.

The home side had gone ahead when Luke Hannant’s teasing cross was diverted into his own net by Andy Halls.

Richard Peniket tapped in Danny Johnson’s low centre to double the advantage, before Ross Hannah reduced the deficit.

The loss leaves Chester 21st in the table on eight points.

PREVIOUS MEETING

28/01/17: WHITES 3-1 CHESTER FC

Ricky Miller scored twice as Dover ended a two-game losing run and moved back into the play-off places after a convincing win at Crabble.

Miller was sent tumbling by Matty Waters and the National League’s leading scorer got up and sent Roberts the wrong way to bag his 26th league goal of the season.

But the lead lasted only three minutes courtesy of a sublime curling shot by Alabi.

Four minutes into the second half, Dover hit the lead again – thanks to Miller’s determination.

The striker brushed aside Blaine Hudson and beat the challenge of Theo Vassell to fire past Roberts.

Jack Parkinson fizzed a 20-yarder just wide before Healy added a third in 58th minute.

The former Maidstone midfielder, who was making his first National League start for Dover, hit a half-volley that flew past Roberts.

At the other end, Arnold saved Hudson’s close range header before Vassell shot wide.

But there was to be no comeback as Dover avenged their 5-0 defeat at Chester earlier this season.

PREVIEW: WHITES V BOREHAM WOOD

Dover will be aiming for a third consecutive win on Tuesday night at Crabble, but recent history does not make good reading for Chris Kinnear’s side.

You see, Whites have lost their last three games to The Wood, conceding 12 and scoring just once in the process.

However, only four players from the current squad featured in any of those games and Athletic go into the match buoyed by recent victories at Tranmere and Aldershot.

Boreham Wood manager Luke Garrard has bought in eight new players over the summer, including recent loan signing Blair Turgott from Stevenage.

The striker scored 12 goals for Bromley in the National League last season.

BOREHAM WOOD’S RECENT FORM

BOREHAM WOOD 2-0 LEYTON ORIENT

Dan Woodwards and Kieran Murtagh were on the scoresheet as Wood beat Orient in front of a record crowd of 1,920 at Meadow Park.

Woodards opened the scoring on 34 minutes with a half-volley after Bruno Andrade and David Stephens both missed chances for the hosts.

Murtagh doubled the lead five mins after the break, sliding home Andrade’s pull-back.

The win sees Luke Garrard’s men climb up to eighth spot on the ladder.

PREVIOUS MEETING

14/03/17: BOREHAM WOOD 5-0 WHITES

Dover suffered their equal heaviest defeat of the season after crashing to a 5-0 loss.

Ricky Shakes led the way for the home side with a hat-trick while Bruno Andrade bagged a double.

Wood broke the deadlock in the 56th minute when Andrade raced through to lob over Steve Arnold after Jamie Grimes slipped while trying to get the ball back to his goalkeeper.

Shakes doubled the advantage 11 minutes later – in controversial circumstances.

Arnold appeared to have the ball in his hands after sliding out to save before Shakes’ challenged and then raced towards goal to score, despite the Dover appeals.

The hosts added a third in the 70th minute when Andrade slotted home the rebound after Shakes had beaten Arnold to a long ball over the top.

Shakes completed his hat-trick with two goals in three minutes after two lightning breaks from inside his own half as his side completed the double over Dover this season.

PREVIEW: ALDERSHOT TOWN V WHITES

Dover will be looking to put in another impressive away performance when they visit the EBB Stadium on Saturday.

Ryan Bird’s late penalty sealed victory at Tranmere last weekend and Chris Kinnear’s men face another tough test on the road.

Aldershot’s home record this season boasts three wins and just one defeat, but Whites have an identical record on their travels.

And  both sides also have 14 points each so far, with fifth-placed Shots one place above Athletic in the table on goal difference.

ALDERSHOT’S RECENT FORM

ALDERSHOT TOWN 1-0 SOLIHULL MOORS

Shamir Fenelon’s early goal ended Shots four-game winless run.

The attacker converted Bobby-Joe Taylor’s cross to score his fourth of the season.

The visitors should have been level when George Carline sent Oladapo Afolayan clear, but the striker was unable to control the ball at the crucial moment.

Late in the game, Nathan Vaughan kept his team in the tie with a fine double save to deny both Taylor and Jake Gallagher.

PREVIOUS MEETING

17/04/17: ALDERSHOT TOWN 1 DOVER 0

A late Shots penalty dented Dover’s play-off aspirations at the EBB Stadium.

Referee Neil Hare pointed to the spot after Connor Essam’s mis-timed challenge on Jake Gallagher.

Matt McClure’s 75th minute spot kick saw the home side replace Whites in fifth spot, but boss Chris Kinnear’s men were only one place and one point behind their promotion rivals with a game in hand.

Chris Kinnear Jr missed a glorious chance to equalise in injury time. The midfielder scuffed wide with the goal at his mercy after Ricky Miller’s blocked shot rebounded to him.

WHITES ON TV

PREVIEW: TRANMERE ROVERS V WHITES

Dover will be aiming to get back to winning ways in front of the BT Sport cameras on Saturday (5.30pm kick-off).

Boss Chris Kinnear’s side travel to Prenton Park without victory in three matches following a 1-1 home draw with Ebbsfleet on Monday.

Opponents Tranmere are yet to live up to their pre-season status as title favourites, winning just two of their opening seven matches.

One of those victories, a 2-0 win at Solihull on Monday, saw Micky Mellon’s men rise to 15th in the ladder with 9 points.

TRANMERE’S RECENT FORM

SOLIHULL 0-2 TRANMERE

Ollie Norburn and Andy Cook were both on target as Rovers registered their first win in five matches.

Norburn swept home Cook’s pass on 19 minutes to give the visitors the lead and would have had a second but for Nathan Vaughan’s fine fingertip save.

Cook sealed a deserved Tranmere win eight minutes from time, scoring from Adam Buxton’s assist.

PREVIEW: WHITES V EBBSFLEET UNITED

It’s been over three years since these two sides last met and Chris Kinnear will be hoping his team are victorious once more when their Kent rivals come to visit on Bank Holiday Monday.

Whites won at Fleet in the 2014 Skrill South Play-Off Final, but Daryl McMahon’s squad travel to Crabble unbeaten in six National League matches following promotion from the National League South in May.

In fact it’s been 32 games since Ebbsfleet last tasted defeat, a 2-1 loss to Dartford on Boxing Day.

Home fans will recognise some of the visiting players.

Dean Rance, Yado Mambo and boss McMahon have all played for Athletic under Kinnear.

One former White not present will be Sam Magri. The defender is away on international duty with Malta.

Both sides played out a goalless draw at Stonebridge Road on Saturday.

Chris Bush almost scored on his debut, but headed Jack Powell’s corner onto the roof of the net.

Yado Mambo stopped Jordan Burrow in his tracks on the half-hour mark as the visitors began to press.

Luke Coulson could have won the game late on, but was unable to connect properly to Jack Payne’s pass.

PREVIOUS MEETING

10/05/14: EBBSFLEET UNITED 0 DOVER 1

Whites returned to Non-league’s top flight following a 12-year absence thanks to Nathan Elder’s second-half winner.

The big striker headed home Ricky Modeste’s cross in front of a 4000 strong crowd at Stonebridge Road in the Skrill South final.

Earlier, Modeste drilled a low shot wide and Daryl McMahon fired an effort straight at Mitch Walker.

The home fans were cheering after they thought Alex Osborn had equalised, but the midfielder’s angled drive had hit the side-netting.

Sean Raggett almost made the game safe late on, but his headed effort floated wide.
