PREVIEW: TRANMERE ROVERS V WHITES

After two wins from two, Dover will be looking to carry that momentum into Tuesday’s clash at promotion chasing rivals Tranmere Rovers.

Whites are currently seventh, four places and seven points behind the Prenton Park side after Saturday’s 4-0 win at Guiseley, but boss Chris Kinnear was keeping it all in perspective.

He said: “We will go there with a lot of confidence after Saturday, there is no doubt about that, but we cannot afford to start thinking about what might be – that can hurt you.

“We’ve got to make sure that we are focused on the job at hand and that’s getting a result at Tranmere and we all know that’s not going to be easy.

“We’ve got to match whatever they throw at us and make sure we are better than that.”

TRANMERE’S RECENT FORM

Tranmere are currently third on the National League ladder, two points behind table-topping Lincoln City after the 1-0 win against visiting Braintree Town on Saturday.

Andy Cook scored the only goal of the game 10 minutes into the second half.

Jeff Hughes missed a chance to double the lead after having his penalty saved.

Their previous two league games were on the road and finished with a 4-1 win at North Ferriby and a 0-0 draw at Torquay.

LAST MEETING

19/11/16: Dover Athletic 1-4 Tranmere Rovers.

Aswad Thomas’ headed Dover in front but Andy Cook equalised not long from half-time.

PREVIEW: GUISELEY V WHITES

Dover have played twice at Guiseley’s Nethermoor Park and their record against the Lions there is an impressive one.

Whites have won both of those encounters and done it without conceding a goal.

But captain Jamie Grimes says that impressive statistic will count for nothing when the two sides go head-to-head on Saturday.

He said: “There is no doubt that we do have a good record there, but there is no point getting carried away with things like that.

“What’s gone on in the past will have no bearing on what goes on Saturday – it’s all about what we do on the day that really matters.

“As players we don’t dwell on the stats or history, we focus on the present and we’ve got to make sure that we get the result we need – a win.”

GUISELEY’S RECENT FORM

The Lions are currently 16th on the National League ladder after the 1-1 draw at play-off chasing Gateshead on Tuesday..

Jake Lawlor put Guiseley ahead in the 15th minute before Wesley York equalised in the 62nd minute.

Guiseley drew 0-0 at Boreham Wood last Saturday while their previous home game saw them end Aldershot Town’s 11-game unbeaten run with a 1-0 win thanks to Jordan Preston’s second half goal.

That was the Shots first National league defeat since December 17.

LAST MEETING

Ricky Miller opened the scoring a minute after half-time after beating two defenders before firing hard and low past goalkeeper Jonathan Maxted.

PREVIEW: WHITES V BROMLEY

Dover be out to end a run of three National League games without a win when boss Chris Kinnear’s side host Kent rivals Bromley on Saturday.

Whites remain sixth on the ladder, despite not winning since the 3-0 triumph against visiting Eastleigh on February 25.

Defeats on the road at Woking and Boreham Wood, and the goalless stalemate with Solihull Moors, have left Whites two points adrift of fifth-placed Gateshead, but with a game in hand over the Heed.

After the 5-0 loss at Boreham Wood on Tuesday, boss Kinnear is looking for an instant response from his players as Whites look to do do the double over Bromley this season.

Kinnear said: “We lost at Chester 5-0 earlier in the season and bounced back to beat Sutton three days later – I am confident we will do the same at Crabble on Saturday.

“We may have a good relationship with our Kent neighbours, but they are standing between us and three points.

“They will no doubt work hard, so we will have to work even harder in order to get a result.”.

BROMLEY’S RECENT FORM

Bromley are currently 11th on the National League ladder after beating visiting North Ferriby United 3-0 last Saturday.

Bradley Goldberg, George Porter and Jordan Wynter scored the goals as Bromley ended their six-match winless run with the win.

Their previous two games saw them draw 0-0 at Boreham Wood after losing 5-0 at home against Braintree Town.

RECENT MEETING

25/10/16: Bromley 0-2 Dover Athletic

Dover won their first Kent derby of the season thanks to a first half double from Ricky Miller and Ross Lafayette.

Miller opened the scoring in the 26th minute after latched onto Lafayette’s delightful through ball to slot home.

Three minutes later it was the turn of Lafayette to get on the scoresheet as he pounced on Rob Swaine’s horrendous back header to fire home.

HITMEN

Whites’ leading scorer in the National League this season is Miller with 30, but he will miss the game through suspension.

Moses Emmanuel (11) and Ross Lafayette (10) are also in double figures in the league.

Bromley’s leading man with 10 league goals is Blair Turgott.

PREVIEW: BOREHAM WOOD VS WHITES

Dover will be looking to get back in the play-off places when we head to Hertfordshire to play Boreham Wood on Tuesday night.

Boss Chris Kinnear’s side had no game last Saturday due to Tranmere’s FA Trophy involvement and dropped a place from fifth to sixth after Gateshead won 2-0 at Wrexham.

Whites, who will start Tuesday’s game one point behind Gateshead but with a game in hand, will also want to end a two-game losing streak against Boreham Wood, which includes a 3-0 defeat at Meadow Park in the corresponding game last March.

Boreham Wood made it two-from-two against Dover earlier this season after they came from 1-0 down at half-time to win 4-1 at Crabble in the first home game of the campaign.

Ricky Miller gave Whites the lead from the penalty spot (pictured above) before the striker was sent off for a second yellow four minutes after the break.

Wood took full advantage of having the extra man by scoring three times in seven minutes before adding the fourth 13 minutes from time to complete a miserable night for Kinnear’s side.

BOREHAM WOOD’S RECENT FORM

The Wood are currently 14th on the National League ladder after the 0-0 draw at Woking last Saturday.

They also drew their previous home game 0-0 against Bromley, four days after a 2-1 defeat at Sutton United.

RECENT MEETING

09/08/16: Dover Athletic 1-4 Boreham Wood

HITMEN

Whites’ leading scorer in the National League this season is Miller with 30, but he will miss the game through suspension.

Boreham Wood’s leading man with 10 league goals is Morgan Ferrier.

DOVER TEAM NEWS

Dover will be without Miller while Hartlepool midfielder Nicky Deverdics has returned to his parent club after his month-long loan.

Assistant boss Jake Leberl said on Monday that defender Richard Orlu (knee) is the only injury concern.

PREVIEW: WHITES VS SOLIHULL MOORS

An opportunity to secure a National League double and remain in the race for the play-offs is on the line at Crabble on Saturday when Solihull Moors come calling.

Boss Chris Kinnear’s side remained fifth, despite losing 1-0 at Woking on Tuesday, and need to get back to winning ways to stay in the hunt for promotion.

Whites have already beaten the National League newcomers this season after Ricky Miller (pictured above in action at Solihull) scored a stunning second half hat-trick to inspire a 10-man Dover to turn a 1-0 deficit into a 3-2 win last November.

Dover had lost Jack Parkinson to a straight red in the 26th minute after he slipped while last man and made a tap tackle on striker Andy Brown as he raced towards goal.

Liam McDonald took over as Solihull boss a couple of day’s after the defeat against Whites and he is well aware of the threat that Dover will pose in the return match.

Speaking to the Solihull club website, McDonald said: “Like all games, we study the opposition to arrive at a game plan for the particular match. Of course we know of the ability of Ricky Miller and we have to be 100% aware of exactly where he is on the pitch at any time, but really that applies to the whole Dover team!

“They are high in the league because of the team effort and it is a very good side. Miller will inevitably receive most of the plaudits, but so should the defence and midfield.

“It is they who supply the passes to him and get the team their clean sheets.

“So we will not specifically target any one individual in out tactical approach. It will be a tight game and we need to make sure that Ricky Miller does not make the difference.”

McDonald is looking forward to the trip.

He said: “There should be a real atmosphere at Crabble this weekend and my players will enjoy it. For me personally it evokes a bit of nostalgia because that is where I made by debut for my first club, Worcester City, when I was 17 years old.

“We will be the under dogs this weekend, so I am sure the lads will rise to the occasion, particularly to put their last performance against Wrexham behind them.”

SOLIHULL MOORS RECENT FORM

The Moors  are currently 15th on the National League ladder.

Their home clash against Torquay United on Tuesday was called off due to a waterlogged pitch while their previous game ended with a 1-0 defeat against visiting Wrexham last Saturday.

On their travels, Solihull won 1-0 at Bromley on their last venture away from the West Midlands on February 18.

Former Barnsley striker Harry White scored the all-important goal.

RECENT MEETING

HITMEN

Whites’ leading scorer in the National League this season is Ricky Miller with 30 following his hat-trick against Eastleigh at Crabble last Saturday.

PREVIEW: WOKING V WHITES

Dover will be aiming to beat Woking for the fifth consecutive National League game when we head to Surrey on Tuesday night.

Chris Kinnear’s side remained fifth on the National League ladder after beating Eastleigh 3-0 at Crabble on Saturday but the boss is not taking the impressive record against the Cards for granted – far from it.

He said: “It’s always difficult at Woking – it will be a hard game, there is no doubt about that.

“Gary Hill (Woking manager) has been in this game for a long time and he knows how to get results.

“They may not have enjoyed the best of times recently but they are a decent side with some very good players in it.

“You can rest assured that we are not taking anything for granted – we never do.”

WOKING’S RECENT FORM

The Cards are currently 20th on the National League ladder after losing 4-3 at Forest Green Rovers last Saturday.

Darren Carter had a penalty saved by Woking goalkeeper Michael Poke with 23 minutes remaining but Omar Bugiel scored twice to make it 4-2 to the hosts before Woking reduced the deficit through Terell Thomas in stoppage time.

PREVIEW: WHITES VS EASTLEIGH

IT HAS been a turbulent week for Saturday’s visitors to Crabble, Eastleigh.

Tuesday’s home defeat by Macclesfield Town was their third consecutive loss in the National League and manager Martin Allen was relieved of his duties on Wednesday.

Dover boss Chris Kinnear, whose side will start the game in fifth place, was not about to get distracted by Allen’s exit after just after just 14 games in charge of the Hampshire side.

He said: “What has happened down there is none of our business – it doesn’t matter who’s in the dugout for them now and it won’t change the way we prepare for the game.

“I’ve just got to make sure we play the way we want to play as I have no doubt it will be a tough match.

“Whoever plays for them will be wanting to impress a new manager, so they will be up for it, regardless of what their current form would suggest.”

Following Allen’s departure, Eastleigh have appointed former manager Richard Hill as director of football and placed him in short-term charge of the team.

Hill was in charge at Eastleigh between 2012 and 2015 and guided them to promotion into the National League before resigning.

He will be assisted by senior players Craig McAllister and Ben Strevens, plus head of youth Lee Peacock.

PREVIEW: NORTH FERRIBY UNITED V WHITES

Dover will be looking to get back in the play-off places when boss Chris Kinnear’s side heads to struggling North Ferriby United on Saturday.

Whites dropped from fifth to sixth on Wednesday night after Barrow AFC won 1-0 at Macclesfield Town.

Those three points saw Barrow replace Dover in the top five on goal difference.

North Ferriby United, who won promotion last season after beating AFC Fylde 2-1 in the play-off final, have found the going tough in their début season.

They are currently bottom and have the poorest home record in the league so far this season with 14 points from a possible 45.

The Yorkshire side have also lost their last two league games, but Kinnear is taking nothing for granted ahead of Whites first trip to Grange Lane or EON Visual Media Stadium as it is called.

He said: “They are fighting for their lives and will no doubt work really hard.

“It is sometimes harder to play a team that are down there and these are not the worst team in this league.”

PREVIEW: WHITES V WREXHAM AFC

Dover will be looking to maintain their impressive record against Wrexham when the Welsh side come calling in the National League on Saturday.

Boss Chris Kinnear’s side are unbeaten in five games against the Dragons since winning promotion to non-league’s top-flight after winning three games and drawing two, including the 0-0 draw at the Racecourse Ground on the opening day of this season.

Of those wins, two have been at Crabble, with Ricky Miller and now Gateshead winger, Toby Ajala, scoring in the 2-1 win at the venue last season.

Miller’s opened the scoring with a header from a Nicky Deverdics free-kick and the pair could be reunited in Saturday’s game after midfielder Deverdics joined Whites on loan from League Two Hartlepool United this week.

Deverdics and fellow new arrivals, winger James Caton, who made four appearances for Wrexham last season while on loan from Shrewsbury Town, and defender Bondz N’Gala, will all come into reckoning for the clash.

WREXHAM’S RECENT FORM

The Dragons will arrive in Kent on an impressive run of form and in 10th place on the league ladder.

They are unbeaten in their past five league games after four wins and a draw, 1-1 at arch rivals Chester.

WHITES IN KENT CUP ACTION

NEW signing James Caton is poised to make his Dover Athletic debut when Whites host Ryman League North side VCD Athletic in the Kent Reliance Senior Cup quarter-final clash at Crabble on Monday.

The former Shrewsbury Town winger joined boss Chris Kinnear’s last Thursday after spending the first half of this season with National League rivals Southport.

Dover won 1-0 at Ryman League, Division 1 South side Herne Bay thanks to Tyrone Marsh’s first half goal last month to reach this stage of the competition.

Marsh won’t feature against VCD, who beat Gillingham 3-2 in the last round, due to a knee injury.

VCD did not play on Saturday after their league clash at Bowers & Pitsea was called off due to a waterlogged pitch.

They have lost their past five league games and are currently 18th on the ladder, five points above the relegation zone.

The club have reduced the admission price for the game down to just £5 for all, while under-11s get into Crabble for free, to allow as many fans and members of the community as possible to come along.

The game kicks-off at 7.45pm.
