UP NEXT – DARTFORD

We head to Princes Park for a dose of Easter football.

The Whites kicked off the Bank Holiday Easter weekend with a 0-0 stalemate at home to Welling United yesterday. It was a performance that summed our campaign up so far with us having dominated the ball but yet couldn’t put it in the onion bag. Welling hardly posed any real threat and looked content to play for a point but it could have been more had the referee spotted a potential penalty for Welling for a handball incident that eventually saw Wings Gaffer Warren Feeney sent off.

Dover manager Mitch Brundle was left frustrated by lack of three points but there were positives to take from the game. ‘I’m starting to sound like a broken record,’ said the Gaffer after the match. ‘We had some good moments but lacked the threat in the final third but that has been our season really. I was pleased with the defensive side of things as we never really looked like conceding. It’s another point and a clean sheet so we can take that away with us.’

The Whites dominated the first half, forcing Kai McKenzie into a handful of decent sides but were unable to bypass the Welling stopper. That game is now in the history books and with the Easter weekend raining fixtures on us, we move quickly onto Monday and a trip to North Kent. With Ebbslfeet wrapping up the title yesterday, Dartford now have the lottery of the play-offs to contend with if they want to advance back into the National League.

Dover will be looking to avenge a 3-1 hammering at Crabble earlier in the season but the form over the last five fixtures favours the home side heavily with the Whites only once in the last five, a 6-1 drubbing back in 2015. Despite the league table and formbook, we upset the odds last weekend away to Braintree so it’s not an impossible job. We hope to see as many of you as we can, to get behind the lads in what could be a crucial point in the season.

If you are thinking of travelling to the game the supporters club has a coach running.

NON LEAGUE DAY 2023 – GET INVOLVED

The Whites head to St Albans this Saturday for Non League Day.

This weekend sees the return of Non League Day, the annual celebration of all things Non League and we hope that you can come and celebrate with us. This Saturday the Whites head to St Albans, looking to get back to winning ways, so why not come and cheer on the lads in what is now a pivotal time in our season. With the international break halting top level football, this is a great chance to come and support your local team.

So what is Non League day?

Non-League Day was set up by James Doe in 2010 as a social media experiment, after being inspired by a pre-season trip to Devon to watch Queens Park Rangers play at Tavistock. It has now grown to become an annual part of the football calendar, backed by Premier League and Football League clubs, MPs, celebrities, media organisations, charities and most importantly the non-league clubs themselves and the fans who turn up on the day.

Always scheduled to coincide with an international break, Non-League Day provides a platform for clubs to promote the importance of affordable volunteer-led community football while giving fans across the country the chance to show support for their local non-league side.

Many non-league clubs are almost exclusively volunteer run, with money taken at the turnstiles often funding thriving youth set-ups, projects and facilities which are of benefit to the whole community. The level of skill on offer at non-league grounds might not be the same as that at the Etihad Stadium or Stamford Bridge, for example, but there are other sides to the experience, from which the smaller club will always win hands down.

The vast majority of games still kick off at 3pm, ticket prices are realistic, you can often stand (and drink!) anywhere in the ground and will always be guaranteed a warm welcome by people who run their clubs for a love of the game. Whether you’re a Premier League or Championship fan without a game, a League One or League Two supporter who can’t make an away trip, or just someone who is curious about what their local club has to offer, there is sure to be something to interest everyone.

St Albans have reduced the price of the ticket to £10 for this fixture if brought in advance but hurry as these are selling like hot cakes with a bumper crowd expected at the Mozzarella Fellas Stadium.

Tickets for this match can be purchased via the St Albans City website or paid on the gate. We have a supporters coach running for this fixture, details of this will be posted on the website towards the end of the week.

UP NEXT – TAUNTON TOWN

Dover head west to Taunton.

The Whites face Taunton Town on Saturday looking to extend their unbeaten run. It will be a tricky away tie at the Cygnet Health Care Stadium with the Peacocks looking to avenge the 1-0 defeat at the turn of the year. Mitch Brundle was in the caretaker position for this win but will now want to take the points in his new role.

The manager has a selection dilemma ahead of the game with David Boateng limping off in the first half against Chelmsford City. The loanee from Crystal Palace will definitely miss the trip to Somerset but Myles Judd will return from his suspension. The travel has also played a part in the preparation for the team.

Speaking to Kent Sport Online Brundle said ‘We have got Myles Judd back. He didn’t want the break to come. It’s good we have a replacement to come straight back in, but it might not be like-for-like. I don’t know what team I’m picking yet. It’s a tough game, it’s a long journey, and they seem to do well at home. We just need to stick to our consistency levels. I’m looking forward to the game and I think the boys are as well. Hopefully, we can come out for the long journey home with a positive result.

Early team news for the Whites

David Boateng misses out with what looks like a groin injury as well as George Wilkinson who still has a slight issue with his knee. Will Moses is also closing in on a return to first team action.

‘Hopefully he can come back and get some consistency, said Brundle when quizzed about Wilkinson. ‘George hasn’t had that consistency this season. But he’s resilient enough and, once he’s back fit, we will try to get him some games and get that match sharpness back.’

We hope to see as many of you down there as possible to cheer on the boys. Please see the website for details regarding coach travel.
