Up Next – Dover Athletic vs Bath City

Dover Athletic return to Crabble on Saturday looking to halt a difficult run of results as they take on Bath City in a key National League South clash. The Whites sit 15th in the table and will be eager to turn recent performances into points against a Bath side just four places below them in 19th. With City also having one eye on their rearranged fixture against Southend on Tuesday, Dover will be keen to make home advantage count and reassert themselves in a tightly packed lower half of the division.

Dover Athletic

Dover Athletic were narrowly beaten 2–1 by Hemel Hempstead Town at Crabble as their winless run continued. An early setback saw the visitors take the lead inside two minutes, but Dover responded well and drew level when George Nikaj finished a fine cross from Decarrey Sheriff. The Whites pushed on and created chances, striking the post early in the second half and enjoying a strong spell of pressure. However, Hemel regained the lead midway through the half with a well-taken finish. Despite late pressure and six minutes of added time, Dover were unable to find an equaliser.

From the Management

“Bath here on Saturday — we want three points from every game, of course we do. It’s relentless. Bath are a really good side and, although we won down there, it was a really tough game. It’ll be no different here.”

Bath City

Bath City come to Crabble following a disrupted schedule, with their last two games postponed — the league fixture against Ebbsfleet and yesterday’s FA Trophy tie at home to Southend. City now face Southend in the rearranged fixture on Tuesday.

Bath ended 2025 with a hard-fought 0–0 draw against Torquay United at Twerton Park. The visitors dominated early but were denied by Harvey Wiles-Richards, who made key saves to keep City level. After weathering the pressure, Bath grew into the game and created chances through Jordan Alves and Owen Windsor. The second half remained even, with Bath City looking secure defensively and going closest late on when Matt Bowman fired narrowly over.

Last Time

Last time against Bath City, Dover Athletic secured a hard-fought 2–1 victory at Twerton Park to claim their first points of the season. Bath dominated long spells and twice struck the woodwork, but Dover stayed resilient and made their chances count. Early in the second half, Francis Mampolo delivered a fine cross for Ruben Soares-Junior to head the Whites in front, before Mampolo marked his birthday by racing through to double the lead. Bath responded late through Alex Fisher and pushed hard in stoppage time, yet Dover’s defence and Mitch Walker held firm to see out a disciplined and determined away win.

Report – Dover Athletic 1-2 Hemel Hempstead Town

Dover Athletic’s difficult run continued as they were narrowly beaten 2–1 by Hemel Hempstead Town in a closely contested National League South fixture at the Megger Community Stadium.

The afternoon could hardly have started worse for the Whites. Inside the opening two minutes, a midfield collision left Ryan Hanson grounded and struggling to recover his position as Hemel pressed forward. Dover failed to fully clear their lines and, after Mitch Walker had done well to tip an initial effort from debutant Oliver Davis onto the crossbar, Millar Matthews-Lewis reacted quickest to bundle the rebound over the line and give the visitors an early advantage.

To their credit, Dover responded positively. The tempo lifted, particularly down the left, and George Nikaj began to cause problems in the final third. His first sight of goal came on 16 minutes when he glanced a header over from Luke Baptiste’s corner, before strong appeals for a penalty were waved away moments later when he went down under pressure from James Bateson inside the area.

The equaliser arrived on 22 minutes and was fully deserved. Decarrey Sheriff broke into space down the left and delivered a superb cross into the box, which Nikaj guided calmly past Michael Johnson and into the bottom corner to bring the scores level. Dover continued to look threatening, with Johnson forced into a sharp intervention to cut out another Sheriff delivery as Nikaj again threatened in the penalty area.

Hemel had their own appeals dismissed late in the half following a challenge by Fuad Sesay, before chances began to arrive from set pieces at the other end. As the surface started to cut up, Dover forced a series of corners just before the break, seeing multiple goalbound efforts blocked amid heavy pressure, but the sides went in level at the interval.

The visitors began the second half quickly, flashing a dangerous ball across the face of goal within seconds of the restart, before Sheriff came agonisingly close to putting Dover ahead when his curling effort struck the post after a defensive lapse. Dover enjoyed a strong spell, winning further corners and pinning Hemel back, but were dealt a blow when Hanson was forced off injured and replaced by Bivesh Gurung.

Against the run of play, Hemel retook the lead on 65 minutes. A quick passage through midfield ended with substitute Trae Cook-Appiah finding Matthews-Lewis, who drilled a precise finish into the bottom corner to restore the visitors’ advantage.

Dover pushed for a response, but Hemel began to manage the game effectively. Late pressure from the Whites was met by a disciplined defensive display, while the visitors carried their own threat on the break. Davis went close to sealing the result when his late strike bounced up off the surface and crashed against the post, while Walker was alert to gather a dangerous cross in the closing stages.

In stoppage time, Dover committed bodies forward, even sacrificing height at the back in search of an equaliser, but despite prolonged pressure and a final long throw into the box, the breakthrough would not come.

The defeat leaves Dover 15th in the table, seven points clear of the relegation zone, and extends their winless run to five matches. Attention now turns to next weekend, when the Whites return to Crabble to face Bath City.

Dover Athletic are back in action on Saturday after a frustrating festive period, which also saw the opening game of 2026 against Torquay United postponed due to a frozen pitch. The Whites now turn their focus to the weekend’s challenge against Hemel Hempstead Town. The Tudors have enjoyed a strong first half of the season and arrive at Crabble sitting sixth in the table, firmly in the play-off mix and providing a tough test as Dover look to get back to competitive action.

Dover Athletic

Dover Athletic slipped to a narrow 2–1 Kent derby defeat against Ebbsfleet United, despite a strong response either side of half-time. The visitors started brightly and took the lead on 18 minutes when Edser struck from the edge of the area. Dover grew into the contest and created chances before the break, with Decarrey Sheriff going closest. The Whites carried that momentum into the second half and deservedly levelled when Kenny Coker headed in Luke Baptiste’s free-kick. Ebbsfleet regained the lead through Samuel’s far-post header and managed the closing stages to see out the win.

Hemel Hempstead Town

On Saturday, Hemel Hempstead Town made it back-to-back wins with a hard-fought 1–0 victory over Dagenham & Redbridge at The Focus Arena, moving back into sixth place. A tight first half saw few clear chances, with Tim Dieng firing narrowly wide for the visitors. The decisive moment came early in the second half when Mauro Vilhete latched onto a superb long pass from Kyle Ajayi and audaciously chipped the keeper for his second goal in two games. Hemel defended resolutely thereafter, with Matty Achuba outstanding as the Tudors saw out the win in front of 1,008 supporters.

Up Next – Dover Athletic vs Torquay United

The first match of 2026 sees Dover Athletic return to the Megger Community Stadium to take on Torquay United in a National League South clash to kick off the new year. After a demanding festive period, the Whites will be looking to start 2026 on a positive note against one of the division’s early title favourites, with the memory of a narrow defeat at Plainmoor earlier in the season adding extra edge to Saturday’s encounter.

From the Management

“We’ve got Torquay here on Saturday, who are the league favourites. It’s a really tough spell over Christmas against some big clubs, but if we can play how we did against Ebbsfleet, we can give anyone a game — as we’ve already shown this season. We gave Torquay a good match at their place, and we’ll be looking to do the same again on Saturday.”

Torquay United

Torquay United had to settle for a point on Tuesday night as they were held to a goalless draw away at Bath City. Paul Wotton named an unchanged side following the Boxing Day win over Weston-super-Mare and saw his team dominate much of the first half. Dan Hayfield and Jordan Young both forced strong saves from Harvey Wiles-Richards, while Matt Jay fired wide from close range. The second half was more even, with Hayfield volleying just over late on. Bath threatened only once through Matt Bowman, leaving United frustrated but content with a valuable away point.

The last time the sides met, Dover Athletic were left heartbroken at Plainmoor as Torquay United snatched a late 3–2 win. Alfie Matthews twice put the Whites ahead, first curling a superb free-kick into the top corner before converting a second-half penalty after George Nikaj was fouled. Torquay replied through a Cody Cooke penalty and a low strike from skipper Jordan Young. Dover defended resolutely and threatened on the break, but with a minute remaining substitute Matt Jay reacted quickest to stab home from a corner, denying Jake Leberl’s side a deserved point.

Report – Dover Athletic 1-2 Ebbsfleet United

Dover Athletic were left frustrated on Tuesday night as a strong spell either side of half-time was not enough to prevent a 2–1 defeat to in-form Ebbsfleet United in a National League South Kent derby at the Megger Community Stadium.

The visitors made the brighter start and dominated much of the opening 20 minutes, forcing Dover skipper Mitch Walker into early action. Walker was alert to deny Samuel from close range and then gathered a speculative long-range effort from Seaman as Ebbsfleet looked to impose themselves with pace and width.

Dover weathered that early pressure and almost struck first on the counter when Kenny Coker burst clear, only for Fleet goalkeeper Hall to race off his line and smother the danger. At the other end, Walker again came to the rescue, diverting Samuel’s effort behind after the forward broke clear and drove into the penalty area.

Ebbsfleet’s pressure eventually told on 18 minutes. A deep corner was only half-cleared and Edser arrived on the edge of the area to unleash a precise left-footed strike beyond Walker to give the visitors the lead.

Rather than wilt, Dover Athletic responded positively and enjoyed their best spell of the match for the remainder of the half. Coker caused problems with his pressing, Ryan Hanson headed over from a Roman Charles-Cook delivery, and Decarrey Sheriff went agonisingly close when he beat Hall to a ball over the top, rounded the keeper, but dragged his shot wide of an open goal. Luca Cocoracchio also bent an effort just past the far post as the Whites ended the half on the front foot but unable to find a leveller.

That momentum carried into the second period. Cocoracchio saw a long-range strike deflected wide with Hall wrong-footed, and Dover continued to ask questions from set-pieces and wide areas. The equaliser the hosts deserved arrived on 56 minutes when Luke Baptiste delivered an excellent free-kick and Coker rose powerfully to head home, sending the home crowd into celebration.

Ebbsfleet threatened an immediate response, briefly thinking they had retaken the lead when Edser’s effort fell to Samuel, only for the offside flag to intervene. The reprieve was short-lived, however. On 64 minutes, substitute Ben Coker swung in a deep cross from the left and Samuel met it at the far post, heading past Walker despite the keeper’s best efforts to claw it away.

Dover pushed on in search of a second equaliser, with Sheriff continuing to battle against the visitors’ defence and appeals waved away when he went down in the box. A triple substitution on 80 minutes signalled the Whites’ intent, but Ebbsfleet managed the closing stages well, limiting clear-cut chances despite five minutes of added time. In the end, it was a narrow defeat for Dover after a spirited response to going behind, with plenty of encouragement taken from long spells of control against one of the division’s form sides.

The Whites return to home action on Saturday as they welcome Torquay United in their first fixture of 2026.
