ALLEN DEPARTS ATHLETIC

Dover Athletic can confirm Jamie Allen has been released by mutual consent for personal reasons and has joined fellow National League side FC Halifax Town on undisclosed terms.

The 24-year-old arrived at Crabble from Southport in May 2017 and scored seven goals in 57 appearances during two seasons with Whites.

Dover boss Andy Hessenthaler said on Allen’s departure: “Jamie came to see me last week to say he was homesick and wanted to move back up north.

“We reluctantly agreed and as we did not want to hinder his chances of going home to his family, decided to not ask for a transfer fee.

“It’s a shame because we had taken up an option on his contract and he was excellent for us during the second half of last season, but we cannot have unhappy players at this football club.”

On the subject of a replacement, Athletic’s manager said: “we are actively looking, but it is not something we are going to rush into as we have three very good strikers here and it depends on who is available and if the budget will allow.”

We thank Jamie for all his efforts during his time with Dover and wish him all the best for the future.
