BT SPORT TO RETURN!

*BS*The BT Sport cameras will be returning to Crabble in September, with Whites’ home match against Forest Green Rovers selected for live coverage.*BF*

The two sides have become well-accustomed to each other over the past few months, with Whites’ final three games of the 2015/16 season being against the Gloucestershire side.

That season ended in heartbreak for Whites, narrowly losing 2-1 on aggregate in the playoff semi-finals. Rovers lost out to Grimsby Town in the Promotion Final at Wembley in May, and now both sides are keen to go one step better in the 2016/17 season – and we’re delighted to be welcoming BT Sport back to Crabble to cover the fixture once again.

The match will now be played at the earlier time of 12.15pm on Saturday 10th September.

KINNEAR IMPRESSED WITH DOVER ATTACK

KINNEAR PLEASED WITH TEST

*BS*Dover Athletic manager Chris Kinnear felt Tuesday night’s 4-3 win over League One AFC Wimbledon helped sharpen his players up, and also confirmed the squad will be added to – but only with “the right players”.*BF*

Whites continued their positive start to preseason with a 4-3 win over AFC Wimbledon in an exciting game, which saw Wimbledon lead twice through a Tom Elliot penalty and Lyle Taylor strike, but Ira Jackson Jr and Tyrone Marsh levelled. Jordon Chiedozie fired home a fine effort to give Whites the advantage with Mark Doninger making it 4-2. Dom Polen completed the scoring from the spot for the visitors.

Kinnear was glad of the win and, more importantly, the test of League opposition. He said: “The lads would have enjoyed that as Wimbledon have just been promoted. They (Wimbledon) were really flying first half and it took us 10 minutes to get going, but it really sharpened the lads up.”

A number of trialists impressed and though there are currently no new additions to midfielder Jim Stevenson, Kinnear did confirm signings will be made between now and the start of the season. He said: “We will be bringing in new faces, but it is a case of bringing in the right ones that fit in and not signing people for the sake of it. There were nine players from the play-offs that played and it is just adding to them to the replace the two we lost.”

Sean Raggett featured as contract talks with the centre back continue, with Kinnear explaining: “We have offered him a contract. No other club has bid for him, so we will have to see what happens.”

Jack Parkinson and Jamie Grimes both donned the captain’s armband each half, but Chris confirmed there will be no change to last season: “Jamie is the captain, but it does not really matter though as I want them all to be captains and encouraging each other.”

*BS*Dover Athletic manager Chris Kinnear spoke to doverathletic.com after the side’s 4-1 pre-season friendly win against Billericay Town on Saturday, offering his thoughts on the side’s victorious start to their warm-up schedule.*BF*

Whites started their pre-season campaign with a straightforward win over their Ryman Premier opposition, with the side’s goals coming from Ricky Miller, Chris Kinnear Junior, Connor Heffernan and Tyrone Marsh.

Whites fielded two different teams each half, and manager Chris Kinnear giving a thumbs up to the performance, saying: “Everyone looked fresh and enjoyed it. Sometimes in pre-season there are two or three that are nowhere near the standard, but today they were all at it.”

Summer signing Jim Stevenson featured, as did a number of triallists, with Kinnear running the rule from the side lines. He commented: “Jim is excellent and has the right attitude. We will be signing a few more, but at this time players are having their trials with League One and Two clubs but don’t always make it.”

Nicky Deverdics and Stefan Payne have moved on to Football League clubs – to Hartlepool United and Barnsley respectively – leaving Whites with work to do in replacing their goals and assists. Kinnear said: “It will be tough to replace them, but when we first had Nicky, no-one else wanted him and Stef was in the Ryman Premier, so we have helped them to become League players and we will be looking to do the same again.

“It’s part and parcel of football at this level and we won’t be feeling sorry for ourselves.”

The manager is confident that Dover’s enhanced reputation of development is likely to attract players, saying: “They get an opportunity here and would be silly not to want to come as they have more chance of getting into the Football League than any other club. We don’t sign players who have been there, done it and are on their way down – they have got to fit in with everybody else’s ambition.

“Dover is a family club and we have players like Ricky Modeste, Mitch Walker and Tyrone Sterling who have been here some time. It’s a really tight knit group and we are building for the future, with good young players who can improve over time.”
