WELCOME, LEE FLAVIN

Our new assistant manager looks forward to the new campaign.

We welcome Lee Flavin to the club as part of Mitch Brundle’s back room staff in the role of assistant manager. It’s a role that Flavin has held previously as well as a managers role with Sutton Common FC. Lee also holds a wealth of non league footballing knowledge with his company Non League Chance running for over a decade. Non League Chance is a showcase company to help football players at all levels improve and grasp opportunities to progress in sport, most notably football.

‘First of all I’d like to say hello to the fans and hope you all enjoyed your summer & our Pre Season Schedule so far,’ said Flavin. ‘We hope your all itching to get the first 3 points on the board just as much as us & having a good start to the campaign, We are nearly there and hopefully I get a chance to share a drink with some of you shortly.

I don’t think we can get a bigger league opener then hosting title favourites Torquay United on the first day of the season !

The first team has had a complete rebuild in terms of staff and players over the summer and at this level it’s really hard to adapt quickly to changes as big as these but the Gaffer has been very active in identifying his targets, getting them over the line and now the squad is starting to take shape. Last season was a tough experience for the fans, I hope this season will be a lot better and you see a lot of our managers traits/brand of football in the team we send out on the 5th.

I’d like to mention we have some top youngsters coming through the academy here at Dover having had a chance to work with some of them this pre season, so great work to the academy guys.

I’d like to thank all the staff who has been very welcoming and helpful in my time here so far and I look forward to seeing all the fans very soon in your numbers.

Lee Flavin
Assistant Manager

Welcome to Crabble, Lee.

A BIG THANK YOU FROM THE COMMUNITY TEAM

Thank you to those of you for attending our first community day of the 2023/24 season. Although not quite the huge event I would have liked to have run, but with 3 weeks to put it together, I feel like the day was a success, even with the Great British Summer having other ideas!

A big thank you goes out to my team of volunteers, for handing out the giveaway bags and balloons as well as tirelessly running the various raffles and children’s tombola, both of which raised funds which will be used to continue our work within the community over the coming season.

The inflatable football pitch, provided and staffed by Holly and Lou at the Football Fun Factory, proved popular and a huge success. Thank you, Holly and Lou, for coming along, we hope to see you again at future events.

The amazingly talented Tracey was providing non-stop face painting for the children and even some of the adults were spotted showing off their painted faces too. Thank you Tracey for all of your hard work.

I was hugely grateful of the generosity shown from local pubs, The Old Endeavour and The Red Lion, for supporting the day with contributions to the Bucket of Booze raffle, alongside donations from supporters of the club.

The re-appearance of Captain Crab was a delight to see as he made his way around the ground posing for photos. I think we need to see Captain Crab more often, however, this is not always possible due to staffing. So, if anyone would like to offer themselves as a potential Captain Crab contender, please drop me an email.

Local band Turmoil played a sensational set in the Centre Spot bar and we hope to see them again soon at Crabble.

Over the coming weeks, we look forward to supporting LDC Care with their activities day up on the Community Training Pitch, as well as being on the lookout for news that the reading packs we have sponsored have been found. The initiative is to keep children reading over the summer holidays and has been organised by the Secret Garden Book Shop. We wish Caroline every success with this project and are glad to have helped give something back to the children of Dover.

With the season almost upon us, work is going into giving your match day experience a more community feel. I have plenty of ideas but am always happy to hear your thoughts. You are after all the club’s community. Any ideas and suggestions can be sent to me directly on [email protected]

Existing projects currently running are the Happy Feet football sessions, which run every Saturday morning on the Community Training Pitch. Ages 5-10 years play from 9am-10am and ages 11-15 years play from 10.15am-11.15am. Sessions cost £4 per child per session.

On a Sunday morning, Walking Football sessions are held from 10am-11am, up on the Community Training Pitch. These sessions are anyone aged 45 and over. Sessions cost £4.

I will update you all over the next few weeks with upcoming events and look forward to seeing and talking you on match days.

COMMUNITY DAY SUCCESS

We hold our first community day of the season.

With the season fast approaching, we held our first community day of the year. There were prizes to win in the children’s tombola as well as a meat raffle, bucket of booze and a chance to win a mascot for a match day. Hopefully some of you have woken up as winners this morning. The first team were then put through their paces with an open training session which consisted of a period of keep ball followed by a short match, with the yellows defeating the blues 2-0.

Captain crab was on hand to make sure that everything ran smoothly before the band Turmoil sung us out with a cracking selection of tunes. It was a fantastic day and one that will be repeated midway through the campaign.

We would like to thank all of you that volunteered, sponsored and gifted towards our day and well done to our community team on a day well done, despite the rain.

Raffle winners:

Shirt – Emma Cook

Meat – Kay Holness

Bucket of Booze x 2 – Paula Lewis & Val McLester
