FIREWORKS: THANK YOU

FIREWORKS: THANK YOU

*BS*Director Roger Knight thanks the volunteers who helped make Friday’s fireworks event a resounding success:*BF*

“I would like to thank all the volunteers who helped out with Friday’s fireworks night. It does make it all worthwhile when you have such a dedicated group of people who quite clearly love this football club.

“The fireworks were brilliant and we had a great crowd on a nice evening. I must also thank TubeSnake for superb entertainment. All in all a great night.”

FOZZY SAYS BRING A FRIEND

*BS*FA CUP MEDIA ROUND-UP

Nicky Forster is urging fans to keep up their “fantastic” support and boost the crowd to help the team overcome Bath.*BF*

Forster told kentishfootball.co.uk: “There were mixed reviews about the fans from different quarters when I joined. From my point of view they’ve been fantastic.

“They’re vital to the survival of the club. We want them all to bring a friend with them and double the crowd because we need them.

“They were fantastic and in full voice again at Bromley and they get behind the team, especially at home so it may be a rallying cry from me to come down and see us because we’re doing alright at the moment and they’re a key part.”

Regarding the tie against Bath, Fozzy said: “We know about them, we’ve done our homework on them. One thing we are starting to do is really learning about the opposition. If we can be prepared going into every game then it gives us a better chance.

“We’re on a good run, we’ve got good momentum. We don’t fear anyone at the moment.”

Meanwhile, former Dover boss Andy Hessenthaler told BBC Radio Kent that he is keen to avoid a repeat of last season and hopes his Gillingham side do not face non-league opposition in the first round draw.

He said: “I’m not watching it. I remember watching the draw last year, there were a lot of negatives around. This year we’re a lot better but we’d like to avoid non-league clubs.

“It’s very difficult to play against them, especially at home, they all raise their game, they come back to bite you on the backside.”

For Nicky Forster, the first round draw remains a long and unpredictable 90 minutes away. His side will be confident following a run of five wins and one draw since he came to the club but are the underdogs against Blue Square Bet Premier opposition.

The FA – 10th Annual “Groundsman of the Year” Awards – 2011

These prestigious awards were formally handed out at Wembley Stadium today (Tuesday 4th October) to all those all those hard working groundsmen (and in two cases – groundswomen) who with their club staff were adjudged by a panel of experts to have the best pitches from Step 1 to Step 7 in the non league pyramid.

In recognising their dedication and expertise, which goes into preparing the best playing surfaces possible, it was pleasing to see the Football Conference well represented, as is shown by the five clubs who were asked to step forward to receive their mementos.

Congratulations are in order therefore to:

Derek Powell (Woking) – highly commended
Graham Wood (Hyde United) – highly commended
Mick Conway (AFC Telford United) – Placed 3rd in the Football Conference
Dick Peters (Dover Athletic) – Placed 2nd in the Football Conference

The ultimate accolade as being the best pitch and playing surface amongst the 68 members clubs in 2010-11 was awarded, rightly so, to Dale Firth who is in charge at Highbury Stadium the home of Fleetwood Town.

The FA through their Pitches and Facilities sub-committee also announced that they would be seeking to extend funding to clubs to be able to purchase better and more modern equipment and would also be making available to clubs a pool of the more expensive machinery which they could have access to for major works.

For all winners, as part of their day at the home of football, they were able to tread the hallowed turf and ask questions of the stadium’s grounds manager Tony Stokes. Another highlight was to hear direct from Alan Ferguson, the FA’s head groundsman at the soon to open St Georges Park in Staffordshire, around the preparation of the 12 pitches on which the cream of the English game will be able to train for major matches as of July 2012.

Wroxham play three levels below Blue Square Bet South and top their league, having scored 24 goals and conceded two. They are based in Norfolk, near Norwich.
