Up Next – Dover Athletic vs Canvey Island

Dover Athletic welcome Canvey Island to The Megger Community Stadium in the Isthmian Premier Division as we look to continue our time at the top of the table.

Dover Athletic

On Saturday, in a tense Isthmian League Premier Division clash, Chatham Town and Dover Athletic drew 1-1 at The Bauvill Stadium. After a goalless first half with several missed chances for Chatham, the hosts took the lead in the 51st minute through captain Jack Evans’ curling strike. Dover quickly responded as top scorer George Nikaj equalised in the 64th minute. Both teams pressed hard for a winner, but resolute defending and crucial saves from Chatham’s Joe Wright saw the game end level. The result extended Dover’s strong form atop the league.

Kieron Agbebi (foot) and Joe Tennent (ankle) remain unavailable with injury.

From the Manager

“Looking at Saturday, we want to win every game. I think Canvey have picked up a little bit from theirs lightly poor start. They can be a difficult team and have some good players. So what we can’t do is drop our standards and think, after the great week we’ve had with the three results, that it’s going to be easy because no game in this league is easy. So we’ve just got to continue picking up points. Obviously with JT injured now and a few suspensions looming it’s going to be a really tricky period coming up towards Christmas. We’re going to need everyone involved to stay with us and hopefully we can keep on grinding out results and picking up points”

Canvey Island

On Saturday, Canvey Island moved up to 10th place with a dramatic 2-1 win over Whitehawk at the Steves Taxis Stadium. In a scrappy match, Whitehawk struck first through Kai Jennings in the 14th minute, who later threatened a second but hit the crossbar. Canvey equalised when Jaxon Brown was fouled in the box; his rebound off a saved penalty leveled the game. The Gulls pressed throughout the second half but only clinched victory in stoppage time. Brown’s cross found Bradley Sach, who headed in off the post, securing three points and bringing Canvey within four points of the playoff spots.

Canvey Island’s league campaign in the Isthmian Premier has them positioned in 10th place with 19 points from 14 games. Their performance includes 6 wins, 1 draw, and 7 losses. At home, they have achieved a strong record with 5 wins, 1 draw, and 2 losses, while their away record has been less consistent, with only 1 win and 5 losses. The team has scored 23 goals but conceded 24, giving them a goal difference of -1.
