WALLIS AND BROWNING BACK TO PLAY

Jon Wallis and Lee Browning are the two latest names to be added to Manager Andy Hessenthaler’s Invitational XI in the fundraising match against the supporters’ teams at Crabble on August 8th.

Midfielder/right-back Wallis played 137 games for us, including 12 while on loan from from Hereford United, before leaving in 2011.

Striker Browning appeared in 78 games before joining Tonbridge Angels ahead of the 2010/11 season.

The pair will join former Adam Birchall, Frannie Collin, Matt Carruthers, Nathan Elder, James Strouts, Craig Stone, Craig Cloke, Lee Shearer, Sammy Moore, Connor Essam, and James Rogers in the squad.

The match, which kicks-off at 1pm, will also see Hess and Nicky Southall return to the playing field.

If you are keen to play against them, here’s how to do it.

Two teams of supporters will play – one in the first half before the other plays the second, meaning 22 spots are available for anyone aged 17 and over.

Those interested in playing need to bid on what team they would like to play for, first or second half, and what position they want to play.

Bidding originally started at £50, but due to the overwhelming response we’ve had, the cheapest outfield bid is currently at £70.

Included in that price will be your official match shirt – a replica, regular fit, blue Kappa one – which you will keep.

Goalkeepers will also get an official shirt too.

If anyone would like to be the manager for the supporters’ teams on the day and sit in the dugout etc, they can bid on that too!

In order to submit a bid, simply email [email protected] with your maximum bid amount, shirt size, position you want to play, which half, and the best contact number you can be reached on.

If you are outbid, we will contact you.

Don’t delay, bid today and support your club.

ACADEMY WIN FINAL

The Dover Athletic Academy finished the season in style after beating their Dartford counterparts to win the Kent Academies Cup final on Wednesday.

Rolando Onu and Alex Green scored the goals as Dover came from behind to beat the hosts.

Manager Mike Sandmann was not surprisingly absolutely delighted with the result.

He said: “It was a fantastic win against a very strong Dartford team and its a great way for some of the boys to sign off from their time with the Academy.

“It was a great atmosphere with so many people turning out and I’m pleased for the boys they got to experience that.

“The game from start to finish was a high tempo battle and our lads had to show real character from going a goal behind.

“Dartford has been the stand-out team this season and we knew we would need to do something different against them to try and win the game.

“We said before the game to use the final as a celebration to the end a really tough time the last two seasons with all the disruptions due to Covid-19 and I couldn’t be any more proud of the lads.”

Eight Kent clubs contested the competition in a league format before the two teams met in the final.

The competition was organised after the league season was been postponed due to Covid-19.

ACADEMY IN CUP FINAL

The Dover Athletic Academy will be looking to finish their season on a high tonight.

Manager Mike Sandmann’s youngsters will travel to Dartford to play the hosts in the Kent Academies Cup final at 7.45pm.

The game will be played on Dartford’s 3G pitch.

Eight Kent clubs contested the competition in a league format before the two teams met in the final.

The competition was organised after the league season was been postponed due to Covid-19.

Sandmann said: “It’s been a really good competition and given the lads an opportunity to play competitive fixtures and I’m pleased they will get the opportunity to play in a final.

“For some lads this will be their last game as Academy players so we are hoping they can sign out winning the competition.

“Dartford are an extremely strong side who narrowly beat us 2-1 in the league fixtures so we know it’s going to be a tough game.”

WATFORD GAME CONFIRMED

Dover Athletic manager Andy Hessenthaler will come up against one of his former clubs when Premier League side Watford sends a team to play a pre-season friendly at Crabble on August 6th (7.30pm).

Hessenthaler made 217 appearances in five seasons with the Hertfordshire side and also captained the side.

He said: “I have a lot of great memories from my time with Watford and I was delighted to see them get promoted.

“I think it’s great for us as a club that they are going to send a team down to play us and I am really looking forward to it.”

The Hornets secured automatic promotion back to the top flight for the 2021/22 season after a one-year absence after finishing second behind champions Norwich City in April.
