Stefan Milton says he doesn’t volunteer at Dover Athletic to win accolades – he does it because he loves it.
But the media team member couldn’t hide his pride when he was told he’d been named the National League Volunteer of the Month for September.
Stefan has been with the club since October 2016 and he plays a vital role in video editing match highlights and sending them to BT Sport, Scout 7 etc while at the ground every match day.
What makes his dedication even more special is that the 29-year-old has Metatropic dysplasia and is wheelchair-bound.
Stefan, who has missed just one game in his time with us, says he was thrilled to have won the award.
‘’It’s not why you volunteer, but it’s certainly a nice feeling to have won it,’’ the Manchester United and Kevin Lokko fan said.
‘’I think there are lots of other people at the club who deserve to win this award.
‘’We’re all one big team, contributing to the bigger picture, and I am so proud to be part of that.’’
The directors, management, players, staff, volunteers and supporters of Dover Athletic would like to congratulate Stefan on winning the award.
We are extreamly proud of Stefan and the work he does for the football club.
He always has smile on his face and we love having him as part of our important volunteer team.
There is so much work done behind the scenes that people don’t ever see, all on a voluntary basis, which all contribute to the successful running of this club.
Dover Athletic’s academy moved into the FA Youth Cup Third Qualifying round on Wednesday evening, beating Tonbridge Angels 4-2 on penalties at Crabble.
Harrison Pont (Pictured) netted deep into injury-time to make it 2-2 and take the tie into extra time after Athletic’s youngsters had twice fallen behind in the game through strikes from Tonbridge’s Harry Hudson and Ned Lewis.
However, Mike Sandmann took few positives from the shootout victory.
The academy boss said after the game, “I thought that we were really poor last night and I was really disappointed with the performance. I think the occasion got the better of too many of my players.
“It was hard for me to be positive after that, even though the lads got themselves back into the game, because I was so disappointed.”
However, despite his displeasure at what he witnessed from his side, Sandmann believes his young charges will be better in the next round.
“It’s certainly a learning curve for the next round. Sometimes the first game is always the toughest and I want us to bounce back with a positive performance.”
Sandmann knew his team were moving into the next round when Pont levelled in injury-time.
“Football has a strange way of coming around and giving teams luck. We literally equalised with the last kick of the game and at that point I knew we would go on and win the game.” he said.
“We didn’t look like scoring and were not causing them many problems, but when we scored a goal like that in the last minute I could not help but feel that tonight was going to be our night.”
Sandmann also praised 16-year-old Will Moses for setting up the second goal before he came off injured. “Moses was excellent all night for someone so young. He put in a fantastic performance and it is a shame he had to come off towards the end with a head injury”.
The draw for the FA Youth Cup Third Qualifying Round takes place on Monday 7th October.

Midfielder Jai Reason is confident home form will turn around after Dover suffered their fourth defeat of the campaign at Crabble last weekend.
Saturday’s 2-0 defeat by FC Halifax Town in front of the BT Sport cameras means Whites’ have only won once at home since August, in contrast to on the road where Athletic have been victorious in six out of seven matches so far, however Reason believes results will soon start to go their way at Crabble.
Reason said after the loss, “We just can’t seem to get a winning formula at home and Saturday was a hard one to take coming off the back of two good away wins.
“It’s all good in hindsight but we do need to find something at home, so we will dust ourselves down and look at what we can do better in training and then get ready for Saturday’s game against Notts County.”
Despite a disappointing first couple of months at home, the 29-year-old feels Dover will improve results at Crabble to help with their promotion bid.
“The league is so open this year and you only have to look at the big clubs from last season – the likes of Solihull and Fylde have had a tough start and we are above them.
“We have got enough quality in the dressing room and it is still early on, so I am confident we will be there or thereabouts by the end of April.”
He also admits he should help his teammates by finding the back of the net himself!
“I need to get on the scoresheet and get that off my back” he said.
“I wasn’t getting in the right positions in the early games. I don’t know if that was because of my fitness, but I feel fitter and stronger now and I got in better positions against Halifax to get shots off so I think the goals will come sooner rather than later.”
