Whites earned a hard-fought draw against an energetic Gillingham side this afternoon. Brennan Dickenson headed Gills into an early lead whilst Ricky Miller scored a superb lob on the quarter hour mark to level.

‘It was a good workout for us.’ said Chris. ‘It took us a while to get going, but once we got into the game you could not tell the difference between the two sides. We used this like it was out first league game and Gillingham took it seriously as well, so it was a good match to be in.’

Chris also looked ahead to an important two weeks prior to the season kick off. ‘We have eight training sessions and two matches in that time. Tuesday’s game will be for the others to have a runout and then Saturday will be a more settled line up like today.’ He added ‘A lot can happen in a fortnight, but we are getting there.’

Chris also confirmed triallist Naby Diallo has signed up for the season ahead. ‘He is a good addition to the squad’ beamed Chris. ‘He can play anywhere across midfield and play off the front as well. He may be little, but he is tough and scores goals and I am really happy with the signing.’

He also concluded ‘We are still looking to add another two or three to the squad in order to keep improving.’*Lpic1*

Whites come off the back of a disappointing 0-3 defeat to Southern Counties East League Premier Division side Greenwich Borough on Wednesday night.

Chris Kinnear’s side will be looking to put that defeat behind them as there is just two weeks on Saturday to prepare before the start of the new campaign.

New signing Sam Magri made his first appearance for the club since signing following a successful trial in Dover’s defeat to Greenwich and is expected to get some more match time on Saturday.

Striker Ricky Miller’s three match scoring run came to an end on Wednesday night but he remains top scorer this pre-season with three goals to his name.

Justin Edinburgh’s Gills side have already beaten three other Kent teams so far this pre-season against Folkestone Invicta (0-3), Tonbridge Angels (1-2) and Bromley (1-2). They are due to play Hastings tonight (Thursday).

Their most recent recruit is Chelsea under-21 captain Jordan Houghton who made his debut in Tuesday’s win against Bromley.

Midfielders Jake Hessenthaler and Doug Loft will play no part in the friendly due to injuries. Striker Cody McDonald is also unavailable due to a knock he has picked up.

Last season Gillingham finished in 12th position in League One, seven points from a play-off position.

Justin Edinburgh took over from Peter Taylor on February this year with the club just one place above the relegation zone.

BT Sport will show last year’s play-off finalists Grimsby Town take on Vanarama National League newcomers Tranmere Rovers live from Blundell Park, whilst last year’s play-off semi finalists Forest Green will make the trip to Hampshire to face Aldershot Town.

Elsewhere, Cheltenham Town will continue their pursuit for promotion back to the Football League with a tricky match vs Grimsby Town.
