TAIWO AND MEKKI SIGN

TAIWO AND MEKKI SIGN

*BS*Dover Athletic are pleased to announce the signing of midfield duo Solomon Taiwo and Adam Mekki. Taiwo joins on a permanent basis following a loan spell at the club earlier in the season, whilst Mekki was a free agent after leaving Barnet earlier this month.*BF*

Chris Kinnear has moved swiftly to strengthen his squad with the signing of Solomon Taiwo and Adam Mekki.

Taiwo, 29, initially joined the club on loan in September 2014 and made 19 appearances for Whites, before returning to League Two side Luton Town. His tough style of play made him an instant fans favourite and adds options to Chris Kinnear’s midfield.

Mekki, 23, joins after leaving Vanarama Conference leaders Barnet earlier on this month after seeking first-team football. Mekki, a winger, was named as a standby player for the Wales under-21 squad in August 2012 and spent five years at Aldershot Town between 2009 and 2014, making 100 appearances and scoring scoring six goals.

After loan spells at Oxford City, Carshalton Athletic, Dorchester Town and Basingstoke Town, Mekki joined Barnet in August 2014 but left in order to find first-team football.

We would like to welcome Adam to the club, and of course welcome Solomon back to Crabble where he played an instrumental part during his previous spell at the club.

Both players have signed deals until the end of the season, with a view to extending them both until the end of next season.

BONNER LEAVES CLUB

*BS*The club can announce that Tom Bonner has rejected offers to stay at Crabble past his loan spell, instead opting to sign for Vanarama Conference South side Ebbsfleet United.*BF*

The 26-year-old joined Whites on-loan from Cambridge United in August, and made 29 appearances in his time with the club – scoring one goal in the process.

With the central defender’s loan set to expire after this Saturday’s league fixture against Dartford, the club put an offer on the table to sign him on a permanent deal – but Bonner has chosen to drop down to play for Kent rivals Ebbsfleet.

We wish Tom the best of luck at his new club and thank him for his efforts whilst with us.

*BS*Substitute Ricky Modeste scored his first goal since May as his late strike helped Dover Athletic secure their place in the FA Trophy Third Round at the expense of Vanarama Conference South outfit Havant & Waterlooville.*BF*

Jake Reid – making his first appearance being transfer listed in November – blocked a Dan Strugnell clearance before setting his fellow substitute up beautifully as Modeste had the simple task of slotting home.

Although this wasn’t a memorable performance at West Leigh Park by any stretch, Kinnear will be delighted with his squad’s concentration on this tie as they well and truly put their FA Cup memories to rest as they secured their place in the last 16 of the FA Trophy for a second successive season.

Chris Kinnear’s men will be ball number 10 in the draw for the third round of the competition which takes place at Wembley Stadium on Monday morning at 10:30, and their hopes of a first ever appearance there haven’t ended just yet.
