BOSS ON NEW SIGNINGS

FORSTER IS NEW BOSS

*BS*DOVER ATHLETIC are pleased to unveil Nicky Forster as the club’s new manager.*BF*

The former Brentford boss has signed a one-year contract and brings Steve Brown from Brighton as his assistant.

Whites’ chairman Jim Parmenter moved swiftly to install the talented young manager before this weekend’s FA Cup tie against Carshalton at Perrys Crabble.

Forster, 38, left Brentford in the summer after four months as caretaker manager at Griffin Park. He led the Bees to 11th place in League One and the final of the Football League Trophy at Wembley Stadium.

As a player he scored nearly 200 goals in over 600 appearances in the Football League for clubs such as Birmingham, Brentford, Reading and Brighton. His clubs paid a combined £2m in transfer fees for his services during a 19-year professional career.

In recent weeks Nicky has been playing for Sussex County League side Lingfield, scoring 15 goals in nine appearances, until the right management job arose.

Jim Parmenter told doverathletic.com: “Nicky has had an impressive playing career at some big clubs and did very well during his time as manager at Brentford.

“As well as having both UEFA A and B licenses, he is also a great man manager and motivator.

“Nicky is totally enthused by the prospect of managing the club and we look forward to a very successful future.”

*Lpic1*Whites’ new boss has appointed Steve Brown as his assistant. The former Charlton defender has significant playing and coaching experience, having been Charlton’s youth team manager and West Ham’s reserve team boss in recent years.

Brown played for just two clubs before retiring in 2005. He enjoyed 12 seasons at Charlton, where he made 242 appearances and played in the Premier League for four seasons. In 2002 he moved to Reading, where he finished his career.

Steve started coaching towards the end of his playing career and was appointed West Ham’s reserve team boss by Alan Pardew in 2007. He has most recently been Brighton’s youth team manager.

DAFC YOUTH TRIALS

UNDER-13s WIN THRILLER

*BS*Dover Athletic Under 13’s kicked off their league campaign at home to Holland & Blair in a thrilling 3- 2 win at River Recreational Ground.*BF*

The Whites started brightly, playing the ball with real conviction, always looking to play decent football with two touch stuff straight from the training ground.

It was this kind of play that led to Dover’s first goal, Randall winning the loose ball to find Woolston who danced past 3 opposition players, slotting home from 20 yards for a excellent individual goal.

With confidence growing among the Whites they soon went two up when Harry Douglas passed the ball into the back of the net from 25 yards out with a precision shot.

At this point the Dover boys were brimming with confidence flowing forward at every opportunity and when the visionary Randall threaded a ball through to Lever Lewis, who watched his fine effort smash against the crossbar.

With half time approaching H&B were given a lifeline when a fine free kick which Brady managed to get a hand to find the bottom corner from 20 yards out.

This lead to a period of play where the defensive side of Dover’s play came into play. The back four were finally beaten from a corner where the none of the Dover players dealt with it to see Blair bundle the ball home to make it 2-2.

With confidence up for the Blair boys who now looked the more likely to score, they came close again when from a corner kick the ball fell to their forward who saw his effort saved by Brady, who somehow managed to turn the ball away for another corner.

With the clock counting down and a draw looking on the cards the ball fell to the wing wizard Woolston, who once again danced through the Blair back four to test the keeper with a fine strike. The goalkeeper could only parry away to find the outstanding Lever Lewis, who smashed the ball home for the Dover winner.

A great start to Dover’s league campaign which the Whites made hard work of times but showed terrific character to keep the belief to find a late winner.
