WHITES GO THE WHOLE HOGG

ANTHONY HOGG scored twice in the first half to set Whites up for their third win on the spin.

Hogg fired Whites ahead with a blistering free-kick and then headed home from a Daniel Braithwaite cross.

The White Army were in top-form behind the goal, cheering the team on from before kick-off and they were rewarded with an excellent performance from Clive Walker’s promotion chasers.

Dover dominated the first half and fully deserved their 2-0 advantage – and it could have been more, with Chris Chase and Craig Wilkins missing chances just before the break.

Tooting came more into the game in the second half and hit a post. But Whites held on and Craig Cloke scored his second goal in as many games when he headed home a cross from James Rogers.

And just to add a bit of gloss at the end, sub Jimmy Dryden grabbed a fourth, showing Whites fans what we have been missing since he picked up that knee injury in January.

Whites fan Andy Stevens said: “That was much more like it. A great win and if this is not a springboard for us to now go on and get up through the play-offs then I don’t know what is.

“This win is what Dover Athletic is all about. A big crowd creating a great atmosphere and a strong home performance from the team along with a win.”

DANNY'S STAYING PUT

DANNY’S STAYING PUY

DANNY CHAPMAN has signed a new two-year contract and says he never had any intention of jumping ship if the club failed to get promoted.

Danny was gutted, watching from the touchlines, as Whites gave away a 2-0 lead during the first half, courtesy of some slack defending.

And after Dover eventually lost the game 3-2, despite a late rally, Chapman told his team-mates: “Never forget this day. Remember how it feels to lose.”

Tonbridge players, understandably, were jubiliant in their dressing room after clinching promotion to the Premier Division at the first time of asking.

The celebrations could be clearly heard in a subdue and quiet Dover changing room.

Danny said: “We could hear them in high spirits – it was painful. The lads were all very down and I had the right hump, because we gave it to Tonbridge on a plate, to be honest.

“You can’t give away three softs goals in a match like that and expect to win. I told the lads they have to remember the hurt of losing this game and come back next season to not let that happen again.

“We have the best team in the division, when we’re full strength, and to not have gone up automatically was a big disappointment.

“But I don’t know too many team who would’ve grabbed a promotion play-off spot with the number of players we had out missing. Other managers have been phoning Clive, asking how he managed to do it.

“To have got to the final was an achievement, despite the problems. But, in reality, we should’ve either won the league or finished second to go up automatically.

“That is now the challenge that faces this squad of players. We have to come back next season and win the league. We have to kill teams off and not draw so many games. The 14 draws we got this season is what has cost us promotion.

“There were so many of those games we should’ve won – and that’s what the boys need to learn. You have to kill off these sides.”

Danny signed a new contract last week before our fate for next season for learned.

He said: “I’m delighted to be staying. I never wanted to leave. Promotion was never going to have any bearing on my future here.

“I like Clive Walker and Jim Parmenter too. They’re both good football people and I want to help them make this club successful.

“They want me to play a more senior role next season. Help out in some of the coaching sessions and changing room on matchday.

“Coaching is not something I want to throw myself into at the moment, because, at the age of 31, I still think I got a few years playing left. But I am only to happy to get a bit more responsibility.”

Danny feels so sorry for fans who have been tremendous this season.

He said: “We had far more fans at Longmead than Tonbridge. They’re not used to seeing big crowds up there. But that’s what Dover Athletic is all about – the fans.

“We’ve let them down by not getting promoted this season and I know we’re adding some quality to the sqaud next season, which will give us a better chance of achieving our target.”

JIM ANSWERS QUESTIONS

JP’S READY FOR BIG PUSH

JIM PARMENTER has revealed that boss Clive Walker may be ready to delve into the transfet market to sign one more player as Whites make their final promotion push.

Two wins out of three have put us back in the play-off picture – and a victory against Kingstonian tomorrow night (Tuesday) could see us back in the top six.

Striker Jimmy Dryden has seen his knee swell up again after coming on during the defeat against Hastings on Tuesday night.

And the club are working hard on trying to get to the bottom of the problem so Jimmy can finally get a run of games – and fire the goals we need.

But JP said: “We’re probably going to sign another player. We’ve got our eye on a couple of targets and will make our move soon. We’re not going to reveal which position yet but rest assured it’ll make the team stronger.

“We are going for one final push at promotion. We can do this and the fans I am sure appreciate that we’ve still got everything to play for.

“The team has been set up to win games. It means we might lose the odd one, but it’s wins we need – and two wins out of three is exactly the kind of form we need to hit. An average of two points a game will see us for sure grab a promotion play-off spot, possibly finish third to secure home advantage.”
