Dover Athletic FC v Cambridge United

CAMBRIDGE STRIKE LATE TO WIN TIE

United need extra time to see off Whites.

WHITES suffered Emirates FA Cup heartbreak as Cambridge eventually ran out 4-2 winners in a pulsating match at Crabble.

Ricky Miller’s calm finished was all that separated the two sides until the final moments of normal time when Mark Roberts bundled in from close range. A superb volley from Aswad Thomas in extra time had Whites back in front, but Leon Legge’s strike restored parity and Medy Elito won it for Cambridge with barely a minute left to play.

Substitute Ben Williams sealed the win with a clever run and finish as it was United who set up a home tie with 1987 FA Cup winners Coventry City.

For Whites, Chris Kinnear replaced the cup-tied Sammy Moore in midfield and Richard Orlu came in to cover the suspended Jack Parkinson at the back. Cambridge made one change as Max Clark and Medy Elito traded places.

Luke Berry almost fired Cambridge into the lead early on, curling a fierce free-kick narrowly over following a foul on Brad Halliday.

It was a cagey start from both sides and the home team fashioned their first real chance on the quarter hour mark, Miller striking a first-time cross from Ricky Modeste just wide. Then within seconds, Uche Ikpeazu ran clear with just Mitch Walker to beat, but Dover’s stopper was sharp off his line to block his effort.

Ikpeazu then had another go at scoring minutes later and though his header towards goal was accurate it lacked the power to beat Walker.

Cambridge were clearly in no mood to suffer an upset and Berry almost broke the deadlock, hitting the post from close range following a pinpoint cross from Pietro Mingoia.

Walker was called into action again with the interval on the horizon, saving from Elito who had shot first time after running onto Mingoia’s accurate cross.

Miller had to wait until just before half time for his first real chance, running onto Aswad Thomas’ clever through ball, but Will Norris in the Cambridge goal was equal to his effort. Ross Lafayette was even closer minutes later after being found alone in the box, but his header from a Ricky Modeste inswinging cross went just wide.

The second half started similar to the first as it took either team ten minutes to register a shot on target, with Mingoia firing a low shot at straight at Walker. Richard Orlu was called into action from a corner, heading Berry’s goal-bound header clear of danger.

Miller hooked a volleyed effort down the throat of Norris as he tried to bag his second goal against Cambridge.

But the National League’s top scorer was not to be denied for long as he bagged his 22nd of the season on 70 minutes, running onto to Chris Kinnear’s pass and slotting into the bottom corner.

There was almost an instant reply from Cambridge as Elito crashed a curling effort off the underside of the bar.

Cambridge then thought they had equalised as Mark Roberts struck from Ikpeazu’s header, but the linesman ruled it out for offside.

Dover must have thought the woodwork was their saviour as Greg Taylor headed against the bar, but their leveller finally came right at the death. Berry’s free-kick was saved by Walker, but Roberts scuffed the rebound home to the delight of the visiting fans.

A moment of brilliance in extra time from Aswad Thomas swung the game back in the favour of the home side, as he lashed home a volley from the edge of the box.

But Cambridge were back in the game once more as Roberts crossed from the right for Leon Legge to stride forward and bullet a shot past Walker.

Elito snatched the win for Cambridge right at the death as he slotted home from an angle after some smart Cambridge play down the right.

A tired Dover pushed for an equaliser and Cambridge took full advantage. Sub Ben Williamson danced through to fire past Walker and set up a meeting with the sky blues in the second round.

Athletic have little time to dwell on tonight’s defeat as they face a league match at home to Guiseley on Saturday, kicking off at 3 pm.

MILLER MAGIC SPELLS TROUBLE FOR MOORS

Ten-man Dover stun Solihull after Ricky bags three

RICKY Miller’s third hat-trick of the season secured 10-man Dover a sensational win at National League newcomers Solihull Moors on Saturday.

Miller struck three times in the second half as boss Chris Kinnear’s side turned a 1-0 deficit at half-time into a memorable victory in the West Midlands.

And they did it after playing a man short for more than an hour after defender Jack Parkinson was given a straight red.

Last man Parkinson slipped while trying to deal with a back pass and brought down striker Andy Brown.

Brown headed his side ahead just before the break and the home side looked set to take full advantage of having that extra man – Dover had other ideas.

While Miller, the leading scorer in the league with 18 goals, will get all the plaudits for his stunning effort, it was a real team effort that deserves the praise.

And assistant boss Jake Leberl agreed.

He said: “We are obviously delighted with the win and the three points especially after losing Jack so early.

“We also conceded at such a bad time just before half-time, so full credit to the boys for their second-half effort.

“Everyone put in a massive shift, so hopefully they can recover in time for three games in six days now.”

Dover had started the game brightly and went close to opening after that man Miller saw his shot crash into the bar following Ross Lafayette’s headed flick-on midway through the half.

But minutes later, Dover were reduced to 10-men after Parkinson’s dismissal and Solihull made them pay.

Mitch Walker turned Eddie Jones’ swerving 25-yarder away for a corner before the Moors scored from the resulting kick after Brown headed home.

The second half started with Walker saving Jean-Yves Koure Niate’s header as the Moors looked to press home their advantage – Miller ensured they didn’t.

He stunned the home crowd by firing low beyond the diving Danny Lewis to put his side back on level terms.

Seven minutes later Whites were ahead after Miller raced on to captain Jamie Grimes’ long ball before shooting past Lewis.

Miller then hit the base of a post with a powerful free-kick before completing his treble from close range.

Lafayette’s effort crashed into the woodwork and Miller was first to react, sliding home the ball from close range to leave the Solihull fans shaking their heads in disbelief.

No sooner had Miller finished celebrating his was substituted – he had ensured it was going to be a miserable first game in charge for new Solihull boss Keith Bertschin.

Substitute Akwasi Asante reduced the deficit with the final kick of the game in stoppage time, but it was too little, too late to deny Dover.

MILLER STRIKES TO FORCE REPLAY

Dover and Cambridge to meet again

WHITES will do battle against League two Cambridge once again as Ricky Miller’s late leveller forced a replay on a bitterly cold afternoon.

Piero Mingoia had opened the scoring from close range for the U’s, but Miller slotted home with only eight minutes left following great work from Ross Lafayette to keep Dover in Monday’s second round draw.

The home side were forced into one change with Luke Berry returning from suspension to replace the injured Adam McGurk. Athletic made one change from last week’s defeat to Tranmere as Chris Kinnear replaced the cup-tied Sammy Moore in centre midfield.

Cambridge, having suffered back to back losses at the Cambs Glass stadium, looked to impress the locals early on and Uche Ikpeazu got the better of Jack Parkinson by the corner flag, but Aswad Thomas beat the onrushing Berry to the ball and headed it over his own crossbar.

Jim Stevenson found himself in a good position following good approach play by Lafayette, but the Cambridge based player shot tamely wide.

A quarter of the game in and the home side fashioned their best chance as a strong run and cross by Ikpeazu was headed just over by the diving Harrison Dunk.

Ikpeazu, Cambridge’s biggest goal threat, twisted and turned Jamie Grimes but fired straight at Mitchell Walker. The stocky striker then sprinted down the right minutes later, but his final effort from an angle was high and wide.

Lafayette prodded wide on the half-hour mark for Dover, whilst Ricky Modeste curled the ball over the bar from the edge of the area following a corner.

Ikpeazu cracked the crossbar following a superb cross from Piero Mingoia and moments later Max Clark thundered an effort just over the bar as United cranked up the pressure.

And that pressure paid off in the 38th minute as Luke Berry’s low drive was spilt by Mitch Walker and though Dover’s stopper was able to block the incoming Dunk’s next effort, the ball fell kindly for right winger Mingoia to bag his fifth of the season.

Dover responded immediately through Jim Stevenson, but he headed Modeste’s corner just over.

Cambridge almost went into the break two goals to the good as another fierce drive from Clark flew just above the crossbar.

United continued the second half in the same manner as the first, Mark Roberts failing to make the most of a Berry’s header back into the box of which he nodded just wide.

Dover’s top marksman Ricky Miller skipped past two defender’s but smashed the ball wide from an angle when a pass to a teammate would have been a better option. He fared better with his next attempt, cutting in from the left and forcing Will Norris to tip the ball wide.

A second goal for Cambridge would have likely killed the tie and centre back Roberts should have done better, volleying a close-range effort from Taylor’s corner knockdown well over.

With the game moving into the final third, Leon Legge somehow blocked a Lafayette effort from close range as White’s searched for a leveller.

Ikpeazu thought he was sending his team into round two after latching on to Mingoia’s clever pass, but he blazed hopelessly over with just Walker to beat.

Chris Kinnear then screwed an effort over from the edge of the box after a defensive clearance fell kindly for him.

But Whites were able to level through Miller on 82 minutes as he controlled Lafayette’s cross with immaculate ease and slotted past Norris.

Cambridge almost grabbed a dramatic winner, but Jack Parkinson somehow diverted Williamson’s header just wide.

Dover Athletic FC v Tranmere Rovers

DOVER STUNNED AT HOME BY TRANMERE

Rovers come from behind to end Crabble winning run

DOVER’S four-game winning run at Crabble is over after Tranmere won a game of two halves on Saturday.

Rovers kept their perfect National League record under new boss Micky Mellon intact in stunning style after coming from behind to stun Dover.

Mellon’s side won for the fourth consecutive game thanks to Andy Cook’s double, an own goal from Dover goalkeeper Mitch Walker and sublime Ben Tollitt strike.

It was the first loss Dover had ever suffered against Tranmere and the first at home since the Aldershot defeat on August 29.

But you would never have predicted the gem would end the way it did after Aswad Thomas opened the scoring for Whites in the first half.

It was all Dover at that stage with the visitors offering nothing in attack.

That all changed after Cook, the leading Tranmere marksman with 10 now, silenced the biggest crowd of the season with his equaliser.

With honours even at the break, whatever Mellon said during it worked as his side scored three unanswered goals to take all the points back to Birkenhead.

The defeat sees Dover drop a place to seventh while Tranmere stay fourth.

Dover started brightly enough and Ross Lafayette headed a Sammy Moore corner wide after nine minutes.

Moore then had an effort charged down before Thomas headed wide.

The defender soon made amends, heading Sam Magri’s pin-point cross down and over goalkeeper Scott Davies in the 23rd minute to register his third goal of the season.

It was the first goal the visitors had conceded in four league games.

But Tranmere were back on level terms less than 10 minutes later after Cook turned home Portsmouth loanee Tollitt’s cross from close range.

Dover responded with Ricky Miller seeing his 20 yarder sting the hands of Davies before Walker saved Lois Maynard’s low shot just before the break.

Tranmere created the first opening of the second half with Walker saving Cook’s effort from distance.

Miller then found some rare space in the Tranmere backline, but his shot from just outside the box ended up nearer the corner flag rather than Davies’ goal.

That just about summed up the league’s leading marksman’s day.

Davies’ counterpart Walker produced a decent save to deny the impressive Tollitt just after the hour mark but he couldn’t prevent Rovers taking the lead seconds later.

Dover failed to clear their lines, the ball bounced Cook’s way and the striker fired past an unsighted Walker from 12 yards.

And worse was to follow for Walker and Dover four minutes later.

Walker came for Jeff Hughes’ corner but only succeeded in punching it into his own net.

Dover through caution to the wind and Lafayette saw his 25 free-kick caught easily by Davies after Miller had been spent sprawling.

But there was to be no coming back for the hosts after Tollitt fired the fourth past Walker in clinical fashion 10 minutes from the end.

DOVER TOO GOOD FOR BROMLEY

Whites rise to 6th after 2-0 win at Hayes Lane.

DOVER won their first Kent derby of the season thanks to a quick-fire first-half double from Ricky Miller and Ross Lafayette.

Whites remained unchanged after their demolition of Braintree on Saturday, whilst the home side were forced into one amendment to their starting eleven as Toni Sho-Silva came in for the suspended Blair Turgott.

Moses Emmanuele returned from suspension and was named amongst the substitutes against his former side.

The home side made an encouraging start and almost took the lead, a free kick found Lee Minshull free in the area, but his header was wayward.

Dover ramped up the pressure from then on, forcing a number of corners and free kicks. Stevenson’s fierce volleyed drive forced Alan Julian to palm the ball wide.

Only tension seemed to separate the two sides after some heated challenges, but that did not distract Ricky Miller from doing what he does best, as he latched onto Ross Lafayette’s delightful through ball to slot under the onrushing Julian on 26 minutes.

And three minutes later it was the turn of former Eastleigh man Lafayette to get on the scoresheet as he pounced on Rob Swaine’s horrendous back header to fire in from a tight angle.

Mitch Walker, who impressed in recent wins over Braintree and Sutton, was at his agile best again to prevent Toby Sho-Silva’s wicked strike, diving left to beat the ball away for a corner.

Miller was clearly in no mood to settle for just the one goal as he fired just over from the edge of the box. Then just before half time, he had Julian scrambling to tip away his first-time volley off a Stevenson cross.

The second half continued in the same vein as Dover looked to kill the game off and their top predator Miller was inches away from connecting to Ricky Modeste’s centre.

Miller himself was substituted midway through the half right after being booked for a robust challenge. Not before he had one last attempt on goal, firing straight at Julian when well placed.

With Dover’s leading marksman off the pitch, Bromley pushed on, but could only muster two tame efforts from Cunnington and Philpott that Walker was able to deal with ease.

Bromley’s attempt to salvage a draw became mission impossible once Daniel Johnson saw red for a second booking after bringing down Lafayette.

The home side had a late flourish and Lafayette showed his prowess in the other box, heading off the line from a corner. Walker then brilliantly tipped over Bromley’s last chance of a consolation before the referee blew his whistle for full time.

The win sees win Dover move up to sixth in the table, level on points with Barrow and two points behind Tranmere in fourth, whom they play on Saturday at Crabble.

Magnificent Miller leads Braintree rout

Striker bags four in emphatic win

RICKY Miller scored four times as Dover hammered struggling Braintree Town at Crabble on Saturday.

Miller’s stunning haul included a first-half hat-trick, as Dover came from behind to stun the Essex side and equal their biggest winning margin in the top-flight.

The livewire striker, who also scored a treble against Forest Green Rovers at the venue last month, proved too hot for Braintree to handle, especially in the opening 45 minutes.

He struck three times in 10 minutes as Dover turned a 1-0 deficit following Sam Matthews’ sublime early strike into a 5-1 lead by half-time.

Miller, the leading scorer in the competition with 14 now, added a fourth in the second half before being substituted to a deserved standing ovation.

Aswad Thomas and Jack Parkinson got the other goals to complete a nightmare debut for Iron goalkeeper Joe Taylor, who only signed from Dartford on Friday.

The day started well enough for goalkeeper Taylor as he produced smart saves to deny Ricky Modeste and Jim Stevenson.

But despite the bright start from Dover, it was the visitors who took the lead thanks to Matthews in the 12th minute.

His stunning curling effort from 20 yards gave Dover goalkeeper Mitch Walker no chance.

Dover almost provided an instant response with Taylor doing well to keep out a close-range header from Modeste from the returning Sammy Moore’s free-kick.

But they were soon back on level terms after Taylor fumbled Thomas’ shot, the ball went through his legs and crept over the line.

Miller doubled the advantage after he fired past Taylor after being sent clear by Ross Lafayette’s clever flick.

And Miller didn’t wait long to score his second, firing past Taylor from just inside the area after a neat one-two with Sam Magri.

Walker then produced a great save to deny Matthews before Miller completed his treble with an almost identical strike to his second.

Parkinson made it five after he blasted home his second of the season from close range five minutes from half-time.

The rout did not ease up after the break with Miller firing home a free-kick for Dover’s sixth three minutes after the restart.

But, despite the scoreline, it wasn’t all Dover and Walker made decent saves to deny Michael Cheek, substitute Jack Midson and Simeon Akinola.

Dover had only beaten the Essex side once in the previous past four meetings between the sides before Saturday and only scored a single goal in the process.

They changed that disappointing record in stunning fashion – red-hot Miller saw to that.

WHITES CRUISE INTO FIRST ROUND OF CUP

Dover brush aside Burgess Hill In FA Cup

ATHLETIC booked a place in Monday night’s FA Cup first-round draw with a clinical win at Burgess Hill Town on Saturday.

Ricky Miller bagged a brace while Mitch Pinnock, Ricky Modeste and Tyrone Marsh also added their names to the scoresheet against the Ryman Premier League side.

Dover’s superior quality was on show from the off and in the ninth minute, Miller collected Ross Lafayette’s knockdown and fizzed a low effort past a helpless Alan Walker-Harris in goal.

With the wind in their sails, Miller then passed to Pinnock and his far post cross was volleyed wide by a well placed Lafayette.

A Pinnock free-kick was then spilt into Miller’s path, but he could not react quick enough and blasted wide.

Dover were keeping the Hillian’s keeper busy, and he had to scramble across his goal to tip away Modeste’s well-placed header following Sam Magri’s pinpoint cross.

Pinnock, heavily involved all Dover’s attacking play, blasted a first time shot at goal after Jim Stevenson’s slalom run into the box was upended, but Walker-Harris clutched onto his effort at the second attempt.

But the former Southend man was on the scoresheet minutes later.

Stevenson delivered a delightful through ball for Pinnock to drill a half volley into the bottom corner.

Izachukwa almost scored for the home team, but his audacious back-heeled effort was not powerful enough to reach the goal.

Just before half time, Miller evaded numerous Burgess Hill challenges on the byline before firing in an effort from a tight angle.

It looked like the ball was already goal-bound, but Modeste smashed it in to be sure.

Chances for Burgess Hill were few and far between, but Pat Harding blazed over when well placed right on half-time.

The pressure continued after the break and intricate play between Miller, Modeste and Marsh resulted in the latter slotting the ball home with ease.

Miller claimed his second on 58 minutes, pouncing on a Walker-Harris and Toure mishap to slot home.

Harding tried to save some face for Burgess Hill with a volley that stretched Mitch Walker.

Pinnock thought he had his second after slotting in Marsh’s pass but was ruled out for offside as the ball struck Ira Jackson on the way through.

Jackson tried to atone for his error, forcing Walker-Harris into a smart stop with a fierce drive, whilst from the resulting corner, Jamie Grimes struck the bar with a towering header.

Lee Harding almost struck a consolation late on, but Walker was equal to his effort.

Walker then produced a marvellous save to stop the same player’s long-range curling strike moments later.

WHITES FINALLY TASTE DEFEAT AGAINST HEED

WHITES FINALLY TASTE DEFEAT AGAINST HEED

DOVER’S four-game winning run against Gateshead came to an abrupt end on Tyneside on Saturday.

The hosts, who had failed to score a goal in their previous three home games, finally gave their fans something to cheer about as they sent Whites crashing to a second heavy defeat on the road in a week.

Jack Parkinson put Dover ahead 10 minutes from half-time before the Heed replied twice before the break through Wes York and Sam Jones.

Paddy McLaughlin added a third three minutes into the second half before Ricky Miller threw Dover a lifeline with his 10th goal of the season.

But the joy proved to be short-lived when Jones grabbed his second of the game two minutes later.

Jones, who scored the winner for Gateshead in the 1-0 win at Tranmere on Tuesday, then missed a glorious chance to score a hat-trick from the penalty spot.

His effort crashed into Mitch Walker’s crossbar and was cleared as Whites escaped not conceding five times in consecutive away games.

While the game ended in disappointment for Dover and the 67 travelling fans, it had started brightly enough with Miller hitting the post inside the opening minute.

While that gave home goalkeeper Dan Hanford a scare, Walker gave Whites a huge concern after diving bravely at the feet of an onrushing Jones.

Walker resumed after receiving lengthy treatment from Dover physio Calum Green and his Gateshead counterpart.

He was clearly struggling but Parkinson gave him the perfect tonic after opening the scoring with a sublime strike.

Parkinson, who scored with a header in the corresponding fixture last season, curled home a stunning effort after Gateshead failed to clear Mitch Pinnock’s corner.

Pinnock had earlier replaced the suspended Moses Emmanuel in boss Chris Kinnear’s side.
Dover’s celebrations did not last long – less than 60 seconds to be precise.

Walker did well to save Jones’ close-range shot but York was on hand to fire home the rebound.

Jones got in on the act a minute before half-time after slotting past Walker from McLaughlin’s cross.

Gateshead made it a three-goal advantage after the break after McLaughlin waltzed through the Dover backline and finished past Walker.

Miller saw a shot saved by Hanford before he beat the Gateshead stopper with a clinical finish from just inside the area.

Any hopes of Dover comeback were gone in an instant, with Jones’ powerfully struck shot restoring Gateshead’s two-goal lead in the 59th minute.

Five minutes later, Jones was gifted the chance to complete a hat-trick but his penalty cannoned into the bar.

A limping Walker ensured Gateshead did not score a fifth with smart saves from that man Jones and York.

MAGIC MILLER’S DOUBLE PUNISHES WASTEFUL SUTTON

Ricky scores two as Whites win 3-1.

DOVER put Saturday’s drubbing at the hands of Chester behind them with a 3-1 over Sutton, though the visitors did give Whites a few frights along the way.

After their sorry Saturday display in Cheshire, Chris Kinnear opted to give the majority of his outfield players that started at the Deva Stadium a chance at redemption, with Mitch Walker taking over from the injured Steve Arnold in goal and Chris Kinnear a last minute replacement for Sammy Moore who had pulled out in the warm-up. Jahmal Howlett-Mundle filled the vacant spot on the bench.

Sutton, looking for a first win on the road since 13th August, made two changes to the side that narrowly beat Guiseley. Louis John came in for Forest Green bound Dan Wishart, whilst Bradley Hudson-Odoi replaced Simon Downer.

Dover made the perfect start on three minutes, Moses Emmanuel played in Ricky Miller with a clever through ball and the striker bagged his eight of the season with an angled finish across goalkeeper Ross Worner.

Sutton almost levelled in stunning fashion, Chris Dickson connected to a cross with an audacious overhead kick and the ball flew inches wide of Mitch Walker’s post.

They then thought they had levelled on twenty minutes, a header from Dickson struck the underside of the bar and appeared to cross the line. The referee, unnerved by Sutton’s protests, waved play on much to the dissatisfaction of all those involved with the U’s. The visitors have every right to feel aggrieved as later evidence shows the goal should have stood.

With Sutton’s blood still boiling, Ross Stearn smashed a free kick toward goal, of which Walker could only parry skywards before the ball was cleared to safety.

Sutton continued to throw caution to the wind and another fabulous strike, this time from Bedsente Gomis flew just wide of the goal past a spectating Walker. The same player then strode forward just before the half time whistle and fired in a low drive that Walker held onto at the second attempt.

United carried on their search for an equaliser after the break, Walker comfortably dealing with Dickson’s fizzing effort from the edge of the area.

Though many could argue Sutton deserved a goal, danger man Miller showed there was sentiment as he doubled Dover’s lead on 58 minutes, racing onto a long ball over the top and volleying past Worner from a ridiculous angle.

Dover had their work cut out for the last twenty minutes as Emmanuel was shown a straight red for a dangerous tackle on Kevin Awankwaah. Sutton’s right back was able to continue and helped his team find a way back into the game. Having set up Craig Eastmond to spurn a glorious chance from 10 yards, he decided to take matters into his own hands by slotting home from close range after a scuffed shot fell kindly for him.

Walker spread himself brilliantly to stop Hudson-Odoi from sealing a comeback after the pacy winger sprinted through a static Dover defence.

Jim Stevenson thought he had the last word, an opportunist long-range volley late on struck Louis John and flew over a helpless Worner.

However, the last word belonged to Dover’s goalkeeper who dived low to his right to save Hudson-Odoi’s penalty, with the spot-kick awarded after substitute Ayo Obileye handled in his own area.

The win sees Dover rise one place to eighth, five points behind new leaders Forest Green. Whites face a long trip to Gateshead on Saturday, hoping to make it five wins from five against Neil Aspin’s men.

Away day Blues

Chester bring Dover’s winning run to crashing end

DOVER conceded five second-half goals as they crashed to their heaviest National League defeat in two years on Saturday.

Johnny Hunt, James Alabi, Elliott Durrell, Craig Mahon and James Akintunde were all on target as the Blues blew away Whites in what ultimately proved to really be a game of two halves.

Dover created enough opportunities in the opening half to head into the break in front – those chances were not taken and Chester made them pay.

Boss Chris Kinnear’s side started brightly and Jim Stevenson saw his effort from distance go wide after 10 minutes.

Four minutes later, Ricky Miller’s first shot of the day failed to hit the target and trouble Chester keeper Liam Roberts.

Ross Lafayette headed wide before Roberts then dived bravely at the feet of the charging forward.

Miller curled another shot wide before Chester threatened with Jamie Grimes blocking a shot from Durrell and the goal-bound rebound.

Dover continued to press, and it needed a smart save from Roberts to keep Aswad Thomas’ 18-yarder out on the stroke of half-time.

Whites finished the half on top and no one could imagine what was about to unfold.

Hunt opened the scoring six minutes after the restart, firing past Dover goalkeeper Steve Arnold, who was restricted for movement after injuring himself while making a save in the opening half.

The Chester fans were still celebrating Hunt’s strike when Alabi doubled the lead less than a minute later following a fine run and finish.

Dover were down, but still not out of it.
Miller sent a free-kick wide before Moses Emmanuel saw his effort cleared off the line after the winger had rounded keeper Liam Roberts.

A surging run and cross by Grimes ended with Miller volleying over Roberts’ bar.

But there was to be no comeback as Durrell made it 3-0 from the penalty spot after he’d been fouled by Grimes.

The impressive Mahon added a fourth after his 25-yarder squirmed under Arnold and substitute Akintunde completed the rout after heading home Durrell’s cross in stoppage time.

The emphatic win extended Chester’s unbeaten run to five games and they have also done it without conceding a goal.

It also means Dover, who host Sutton United on Tuesday night, are now winless in six visits to Chester.
