Dover travelled to Histon this week looking to bounce back from a poor result at AFC Sudbury last week. We arrived slightly later than usual due to traffic but the boys were focused and didn’t let this faze them.
A good start to the game see both teams using the ball well and the game was well balanced. One golden chance presented its self to Corey watts who managed to miss the target, when it looked easier to score. Later in the half a well worked free kick from the training ground gave Lloyd Harrington a chance to shoot only for his left footed strike to clip the post. The half ended 0-0 with Dover having the better chances.
The second half started with Histon trying to keep the ball, however terrific work rate and good team pressure meant Histon were doing it close to there own goal. As the game developed it was fair to say Histon had seen more of the ball however they were struggling to get any chances at the Dover goal.
Eventually Dover got hold of the ball and worked it well up to Connor Coyne, a spell of individual brilliance see him rifle a left footed shot past the despairing dive of Histon’s number 1 from 25 yards. Now Dover needed to focus and retain the ball, Histon were working the ball well but a great defensive performance from the team meant they struggled to get any clear opportunities at goal.
Late in the half a Dover were awarded a free kick in a dangerous area. Lloyd Harrington took the responsibility of working the Histon keeper. The keeper was rooted to the spot as his drive dropped into the bottom corner making it 2-0.
Dover finished the game 2-0 winners, a result that was thoroughly deserved.
A good team performance that will give us the confidence going into our next game at home to Woking.
