*BS*Dover Athletic manager Chris Kinnear felt Tuesday night’s 4-3 win over League One AFC Wimbledon helped sharpen his players up, and also confirmed the squad will be added to – but only with “the right players”.*BF*
Whites continued their positive start to preseason with a 4-3 win over AFC Wimbledon in an exciting game, which saw Wimbledon lead twice through a Tom Elliot penalty and Lyle Taylor strike, but Ira Jackson Jr and Tyrone Marsh levelled. Jordon Chiedozie fired home a fine effort to give Whites the advantage with Mark Doninger making it 4-2. Dom Polen completed the scoring from the spot for the visitors.
Kinnear was glad of the win and, more importantly, the test of League opposition. He said: “The lads would have enjoyed that as Wimbledon have just been promoted. They (Wimbledon) were really flying first half and it took us 10 minutes to get going, but it really sharpened the lads up.”
A number of trialists impressed and though there are currently no new additions to midfielder Jim Stevenson, Kinnear did confirm signings will be made between now and the start of the season. He said: “We will be bringing in new faces, but it is a case of bringing in the right ones that fit in and not signing people for the sake of it. There were nine players from the play-offs that played and it is just adding to them to the replace the two we lost.”
Sean Raggett featured as contract talks with the centre back continue, with Kinnear explaining: “We have offered him a contract. No other club has bid for him, so we will have to see what happens.”
Jack Parkinson and Jamie Grimes both donned the captain’s armband each half, but Chris confirmed there will be no change to last season: “Jamie is the captain, but it does not really matter though as I want them all to be captains and encouraging each other.”
