The game was also enjoyed by the BBC’s Football Focus team. Presenter Dan Walker and former Arsenal right back Lee Dixon were filming for an FA Cup third round preview.
Walker travelled down to Perrys Crabble in the morning to meet the supporters travelling to Essex on the Supporters Club coach.
He then met up with Dixon, plus their producer and cameraman, at Ship Lane to speak to the players, officials and supporters before and during the game.
Going into the game, Dover were understrength due to a bout of illness and injury. Jon Wallis, Joe Tabiri, Elliott Charles and Donovan Simmonds were unavailable. However, Ross Flitney returned from illness and triallist Pierrick Briand made his debut in central midfield.
After a slow start and opening goal for Thurrock, Adam Birchall set Dover on their way to a convincing victory with a first half hat-trick. Further goals from Ben Hunt and Barry Cogan, plus another two from Birchall saw Whites run out 7-2 winners.
Lee Dixon commented on Twitter after the game: “Great to see football played how it used to be today at Thurrock. Ref was superb. Lots of goals. Lots of effort. No bookings! Good day.
“Good standard, great ref. Birchall will cause Huddersfield some problems. Dover for the cup!”
Dan Walker was equally enthusiastic: “Dover win 7-2! Bring on Huddersfield in the FA Cup. Thurrock are a top club with the world’s greatest boardroom.”
