MICK CARTER'S FUNERAL

MICK CARTER’S FUNERAL

IT is with regret we announce the death of lifelong fan Mick Carter.

Mick lost his fight against cancer last week after a brave battle. He was 68.

His funeral will take place on Wednesday 30 March at 10.40am at Barham. Donations go to Pilgrims Hospice.

Dover Athletic stalwart Mick supported the Whites for the best part of 40 years and was a former chairman of the supporters club.

Mick tirelessly gave so much of his time to the club – either organising events, painting the gates at Crabble or selling golden goal tickets.

He epitomises what being a true non-league supporter is all about.

Supporters club chairman Paul Harrison said: “This is very sad news. Mick was a true gentleman and a pleasure to know. In the 10 years I’ve known Mick, he has always had a big smile on his face and we used to often have a chat with him and his wife.

“Many people will know Mick from selling raffle tickets from his disability buggy next to the turnstiles. He was a gentleman.”

Dover Athletic would like to pass on sincere sympathies from everyone connected with this football club, who hold Mick in the very highest esteem.

ASHTON JOINS FOR RUN-IN

*BS*MARTIN HAYES has strengthened his squad for the club’s play-off bid, signing Nathan Ashton from Marlow.*BF*

The 24 year-old has been brought in to add balance to Whites’ midfield options. He has a professional pedigree with Charlton Athletic and Wycombe Wanderers.

Also comfortable at left back, Ashton represented England at youth and Under-20 level whilst at Charlton. He scored on debut for Cray Wanderers in December 2010 before joining Marlow recently.

The left-sided midfielder joins 19 year-old Jack Pallen as a new face in Whites’ squad. The former Dartford and Chatham striker came on as a substitute in last Saturday’s 1-0 victory at Maidenhead.

*Ppic1*The signings increase Martin Hayes’ options back up to 20 players for the final 11 games of the season. With a quarter of the season to go, Dover lie four points off the play-offs with two games in hand.

Midfielder Jon Wallis spoke to the Kent Messenger this week about the tactical changes which have seen an up turn in form and results in the last few weeks.

Wallis said: “We were playing 4-4-2 but instead of changing the personnel, the manager looked at changes elsewhere and we’re now putting a run of results together.

“It was tough at first as he came in late but he’s brought in a few faces and we are now finding stability in the squad.

“We are a confident team now and have a good chance of finishing really high in the play-offs. That’s what we are aiming for.”

HAYES' NEW DEAL

HAYES’ NEW DEAL

*BS*DOVER ATHLETIC have agreed a new one-year deal with manager Martin Hayes for next season.

*BF*The fine details of the contract will be ironed out once the club know what division they will be playing in – but Hayes will be offered an extension to his current agreement.

Chairman Jim Parmenter said: “We are happy with the job Martin has done this season. He took over in the summer in difficult circumstances after Andy Hessenthaler left and what then happened with Ian Hendon.

“The club reached the third round of the FA Cup in a memorable run that will forever be remembered. Martin did a great job there – and we’re still very much competing for promotion.

“I’ve faith in Martin and that’s why we’ve offered him a new contract.”
