UP NEXT – OXFORD CITY

Oxford City head to Crabble.

The Whites face the Hoops in our penultimate home match of the 2022/23 campaign, looking to avenge the 3-1 defeat earlier on in the season. City will be looking to cement a place in the play-off spots with Ebbsfleet already guaranteed one promotion place following their league title claim from last weekend.

Mitch Brundle’s side will be looking to keep one step ahead of the relegation rivals, something the boss has been keen to speak about on numerous occasions. ‘I won’t really be happy until i see four teams with R next to their name so we will keep going,’ said the Gaffer.

Tyrone Sterling completed his ban so is now available for selection which could give the boss a selection dilemma with a fully fit squad at his disposal. Speaking to Kent Online Sport, Brundle said ‘That’s the best thing at the minute because it’s getting towards the end of the season and everyone is fit. Everyone’s trying to fight for their contracts for next year. We’ve had a full-strength squad.’

Opposition boss Ross Jenkins has placed the emphasis on remembering the performance last time out against the Whites. Speaking to his clubs website he said ‘It’s important we replicate our performance in the reverse fixture at their place. It’s a long journey but we’ve got to get on with it and we’ll prepare as normal and get ready for a good game of football. There’s no fear on their behalf. However, it’s important that we don’t focus on that. They’ll do what they can do and we’ll try and do what we’re best at and what we’ve been doing all season and try and get a result there.’

Oxford City Form Guide:

Head to Head:

The two sides have met twice in the last ten years with both claiming a win each. Dover advanced to the next round of the FA Cup back in 2013 courtesy of a 3-0 win here at Crabble. The Hoops won more recently, at the start of this campaign with an impressive 3-1 victory.

OLIVER IS ANDI AFTER EASTER FOOTBALL – MANAGER REACTION

The Gaffer has his thoughts on the Bank Holiday results.

The Whites ended the Bank Holiday weekend with only one point to show for their efforts following a draw against Welling United and a defeat to play-off chasing Dartford on Easter Monday. It was a special goal that nicked the win for the Darts with Lee Allen curling in a long range effort to break Dover’s resolve when it looked like another battling performance on the road.

Speaking to Kent Online Sport Mitch Brundle was quick to point out how pleased he was with the youngsters stepping in over the busy Easter period. ‘We’ve asked some of the other boys to step up. We scored three goals against Braintree and Friday was another game where we could have got another couple of goals, but fair play to Welling. That point, at the end of the day, was another point in the right direction.’

It’s not a secret that club has found it tough to score goals this season but the manager is looking at strengthening in that area over the summer. ‘That’s correct,’ he noted. ‘We’ve known that for a long time and we haven’t been able to get another one in.’

New signing Andi Janjeva and academy player Freddie Oliver have impressed the boss with their recent displays. ‘Andi’s done fantastically since he came in. Freddie is starting to find his feet and he’s getting fitter, which is even better for him performance-wise. He sits in front of that back-four fantastically. He just allows people to be free and more attacking. He’s reliable. He sits in front and doesn’t go wandering so that allows you to have Higgsy more advanced and Marts more advanced. He screens the back four, so they’re not so isolated.

It’s something that we hadn’t had, really, and allows us to free the more technically skilful players. He’s done fantastically well. Hopefully, he can carry it on.’

The Whites entertain high flying Oxford City at Crabble on Saturday, we hope to see you there.

DARTFORD 2 DOVER ATHLETIC 1

Dover dealt a Bank Holiday blow.

It wasn’t the ideal start for the Whites as after just four minutes, Harvey Bradbury fired the hosts into the lead with Dover unable to clear their lines.

Despite the early setback, the visitors grew into the game with some neat and tidy possession and could have scored when Jordan Higgs fired his shot against a defender on the goal line after good work by Pierrick down the left hand side.

Dartford had the ball in the net again in the 18th minute when Nelson spilled a long range effort and a Darts forward tucked away the rebound but the linesman’s flag cut short any celebrations. Moments later and Joshua Ajayi spun his man but could only send his volleyed effort into the away fans behind the goal.

In the 28th minute, Lee Martin looked to have been fouled in the box but the referee was having none of it and awarded the Whites a corner. The ball was swung in and Jordan Higgs planted a bullet header into the Dartford goal.

Once Dover had equalised the game seemed to become a scrappy affair, with both sides trying to get hold of the ball.

In the second half Dover pressed forward early on but it was the hosts who took the lead when Luke Allen curled in a 20 yarder. It looked like a foul on Jordan Higgs in the build up but the referee opted to play on. It was costly for the Whites as seconds later the ball was in the net.

Luke Wanadio sent a cross come shot sailing over the crossbar but it wasn’t to be in the second period with the Whites beginning to look tired.

Defeat in Dartford is not going to define this season. We now look ahead to a home game against Oxford City.

UP NEXT – DARTFORD

We head to Princes Park for a dose of Easter football.

The Whites kicked off the Bank Holiday Easter weekend with a 0-0 stalemate at home to Welling United yesterday. It was a performance that summed our campaign up so far with us having dominated the ball but yet couldn’t put it in the onion bag. Welling hardly posed any real threat and looked content to play for a point but it could have been more had the referee spotted a potential penalty for Welling for a handball incident that eventually saw Wings Gaffer Warren Feeney sent off.

Dover manager Mitch Brundle was left frustrated by lack of three points but there were positives to take from the game. ‘I’m starting to sound like a broken record,’ said the Gaffer after the match. ‘We had some good moments but lacked the threat in the final third but that has been our season really. I was pleased with the defensive side of things as we never really looked like conceding. It’s another point and a clean sheet so we can take that away with us.’

The Whites dominated the first half, forcing Kai McKenzie into a handful of decent sides but were unable to bypass the Welling stopper. That game is now in the history books and with the Easter weekend raining fixtures on us, we move quickly onto Monday and a trip to North Kent. With Ebbslfeet wrapping up the title yesterday, Dartford now have the lottery of the play-offs to contend with if they want to advance back into the National League.

Dover will be looking to avenge a 3-1 hammering at Crabble earlier in the season but the form over the last five fixtures favours the home side heavily with the Whites only once in the last five, a 6-1 drubbing back in 2015. Despite the league table and formbook, we upset the odds last weekend away to Braintree so it’s not an impossible job. We hope to see as many of you as we can, to get behind the lads in what could be a crucial point in the season.

If you are thinking of travelling to the game the supporters club has a coach running.

DOVER ATHLETIC 0 WELLING UNITED 0

Whites held in stalemate.

It was all one way traffic in the opening 45 minutes with the home side dominating the visitors but were unable to find the net.

Luke Wanadio, match winner from last week, had a couple of attempts but Kai McKenzie in the Welling goal was equal to them. The Wings keeper had a busy first half including a low dive to his right to keep out a shot from Freddie Oliver.

Dover were knocking on the door but it wasn’t quite opening time just yet.

The Whites lost attacking full-back Myles Judd who picked up an injury on the half hour mark and was unable to continue, being replaced by David Boateng.

Dover were knocking on the door but it wasn’t quite opening time just yet, despite creating a raft of chances.

It was a similar story in the second half with the Whites having the lion share of the possession but were unable to find a way through. In what seems to be common theme in this second half of the campaign, we are just not clinical enough in the final third.

It was a clean sheet and another point on the board. We now head to Dartford on Monday.

Dover Athletic: Nelson, Judd, Paxman, Goodman, Janjeva, Higgs, Oliver, Martin, Wanadio, Pierrick, Ajayi

UP NEXT – WELLING UNITED

The Wings head to Crabble to kick-off the Easter Weekend.

Warren Feeney’s Welling United head to Crabble on Good Friday with both teams looking to steer clear from the bottom four. Our visitors sit one point and one place below us in the table in 17th position and will be looking to go one better than the point against the Whites back in September when two late goals from Manny Parry and Chike Kandi ensured that both teams took a point apiece.

Dover hold an impressive record over the Wings, winning four of the last five encounters, including a 5-0 thumping in a preseason friendly back in 2017. The Gaffer will be looking for another full blooded performance from his charges after some heroic defending last time out. As well as heaping plenty of praise on his players, Mitch Brundle had admiration for the travelling support last weekend who despite witnessing a less than favourable run of late, still got behind the team.

‘I cannot thank them enough,’ said the manager. ‘They have been fantastic since I came in and even with the down turn of form over those four games, still travelled to Braintree and got behind the team. Hopefully we can get some through the gate to kick off the bank holiday and we look forward to hopefully getting another three points.’

There are still spaces available in the VIP suite where you can relax and watch the game with the best view of the house, including a delicious three course meal. Details can be found on the website.
