*BS*Dover Athletic recorded back-to-back victories for the first time since January as Nick Deverdics’ brace helped Whites see off Altrincham in the Vanarama Conference.*BF*

Deverdics put the hosts in an early lead when he superbly drilled past Alty keeper David Parton towards the far bottom corner but Gianluca Havern levelled matters after pouncing on a loose ball inside the area before stabbing home.

*Q1*But Dover’s winner came on 85 minutes when Parton could only parry out Chris Kinnear Jnr’s long range effort out before captain Connor Essam chipped over Parton for Deverdics to head in the winner.

Deverdics’ 9th and 10th goals of the season saw Whites climb up to 10th in the latest league standings, and the character of the squad particularly pleased manager Chris Kinnear.

“Points are points,” stated Kinnear, “at 1-1 and not playing great, the lads could have laid down, but as I have said all along our players have got some character and they gave 100%.”

His side host Gateshead next in the second home game of four consecutive Crabble fixtures on Saturday.

REACTION: WHITES LEAVE IT LATE TO BEAT ALTY

A late header from midfielder Nicky Deverdics made it six points in 4 days for Whites, and appreciative of a below par performance, he heaped praise on his players after they cancelled out Altrincham’s equalizer moments earlier. ‘Points are points’ he beamed. ‘At 1-1 and not playing great, the lads could have laid down, but as I have said all along our players have got some character and they gave 100%.’ He added ‘Altrincham have got some old strong players there and as a club they have won this league a few times.’

Two victories on the spin have put Whites back on track after a seven game winless run. ‘Let’s not get carried away that we lost a few games. At the end of the day we are tenth in the league and the third highest scorers, so we can all be positive. We are really dangerous going forward and teams have got to be wary of us. When we have lost it has always been a close game.’*Q1*

Chris was also pleased for the supporters as they were able to celebrate a home victory once again. ‘We have done much better at home this season than previous. The supporters did not get on their backs at 1-1, wheras previously players would have got a bit of stick and maybe lost it. The fans stayed with them and the players do appreciate it.’

Whites face a number of teams battling for promotion in the run in, a great test for the team as they continue to improve, according to the experienced boss. ‘If that is the standard to get into the play offs, then we are going to learn a lot in those games, regardless of the results. We have been showing great progression for the last two years we are now learning for next year.’*Lpic1*

With progression in mind, contract offers are out early as Chris looks to avoid second season syndrome, a fate suffered by other Kent clubs recently. ‘I think sorting out player futures early is why we could do better than most sides in the second season because they lost their better players and struggled. We really want to continue going from strength to strength.’

Next up for Athletic is the second of four consecutive home games as they face Gateshead, who will be looking to avenge their 2-1 loss to Dover earlier in the campaign.

PREVIEW: DAFC V ALTRINCHAM

*BS*Dover Athletic look for back-to-back victories for the first time since the end of January as they host an Altrincham side who have won just once in their last six games.*BF*

A Tom Murphy double was enough to see off an out of form Kidderminster Harriers side on Saturday avenging the 0-1 defeat the Harriers inflicted on Whites back in August.

Chris Kinnear’s side start the first of a four game home stand on Tuesday, where he will undoubtedly be looking to climb further up the table and keep Crabble the fortress it has been so far this campaign.

*Lpic1**BS*Team news*BF*
Striker Dan Holman is a major doubt after missing both of Dover’s last two games against Lincoln and Kidderminster due to injury.

After his goals last Saturday, Tom Murphy will likely start up-front with Stefan Payne who will be looking for his first goal since netting against Bath City in the FA Trophy last month.

Goalkeeper Andrew Rafferty got a moral boosting first clean sheet since the 1-0 win against Woking in the FA Cup trophy third round replay.

For the visitors, club captain Shaun Densmore suffered medial ligament damage after being helped off the pitch in the opening minutes of last Saturday’s home defeat by Wrexham.

Top scorer James Lawrie has accumulated 16 goals in the Vanarama Conference to date and is expected to lead the line against Whites on Tuesday night.

*Lpic2**BS*Opposition form*BF*
The visitors to Crabble sit just two places and one point behind Dover in 15th place in the Vanarama Conference.

Altrincham’s only victory in their last six did come in front of the BT Sport cameras away at Welling.

Like Dover, Altrincham were promoted to the top level of Conference football last season via the play-offs.

An extra time winner in the final was enough to beat Guisley 2-1 and ensure Conference football for this season.

*BS*Last time they met*BF*
Dover conceded an injury time equaliser to *Link1*. A deflected Nicky Deverdics lead gave Whites the lead just after the interval, but it was cancelled out by Ryan Crowther.

Stefan Payne then gave the visitors the lead with just 11 minutes left on the clock, but Alty striker James Lawrie ensured the points were shared in an action packed second half.

*Ppic1*The last two home fixtures against Altrincham in December 1999 and September 1996 resulted in *Link2*.

Last time Dover claimed a victory on home soil against Alty was back in September 1993.

*BS*Match information*BF*
Whites have not lost a home league Tuesday night fixture so far this season, however have lost all their away ones.

A win for Dover could see them climb as high as 10th position if other results go their way while the visitors could leapfrog Kinnear’s side if they pick up a victory.

The match will not be segregated.

*BS*Tom Murphy scored twice – including a stunning lob – as Dover Athletic’s run without victory came to an end with victory at Kidderminster Harriers in the Vanarama Conference.*BF*

Murphy latched onto a Stefan Payne pass – his second assist in as many games – before lifting the ball over onrushing Harriers keeper Danny Lewis and nonchalantly tapping into an empty net.

Sean Raggett was at hand to prevent Kidderminster from equalising with a goal-line clearance before Murphy wrapped up the win as he cut inside before superbly lobbing Lewis from outside the area.

The win ends Chris Kinnear’s side’s seven-game winless run in all competitions and moves them one place up to 13th in the latest league standings.

CLUB SIGN EQUALITY CHARTER

CLUB SIGN EQUALITY CHARTER

*BS*Dover Athletic Football Club are proud to announce that we will be presented with the Kent FA’s Equality Charter ahead of Saturday’s game against Southport – our designated Football v Homophobia (FvH) match.*BF*

The club support the scheme and Saturday’s game will see Whites join the international initiative opposing homophobia in football at all levels, from grassroots through to professional clubs.

Dover Athletic will be joining forces with Kent FA and FvH to take a clear stand against homophobia, so that everyone can enjoy football and ensure it leads the way in removing any discrimination or prejudice based on gender identity or sexual orientation.

In acknowledgement of Dover Athletic’s efforts to use football as a platform to support equal opportunity, Kent FA will be presenting the club with the Equality Charter shortly before kick-off.

The Equality Charter is a stamp mark to acknowledge the commitment of the county’s leading clubs to positively tackling discrimination and prejudice within the game.

Natalie Curtis, Kent FA Football Development Officer, paid tribute to the club for their support: “Clubs like Dover Athletic play such a pivotal role within their local community, they set the tone and example for how society should act and respect each other and I’m delighted they’ve taken such positive action to dedicate Saturday’s home game to tackling homophobia in the game.”

Kent FA Equality Advisory Group Vice-Chair, Brian Silk added: “By signing Kent FA’s Charter and making a commitment to tackling discrimination, Dover Athletic is showing that it is welcoming to all. I wish Dover Athletic continuing success in making football for everyone.”
