SIGN O' THE GRIMES

SIGN O’ THE GRIMES

*BS*The club have moved quickly to secure their first target ahead of the 2015/16 season, with highly-rated central defender Jamie Grimes joining the club from Kidderminster Harriers.*BF*

24-year-old Grimes came through the ranks at Premier League side Swansea City before joining Harriers in March 2013 – initially on a short-term deal.

He impressed sufficiently to be offered a year-long deal last summer, and was a near ever-present this season in their side. He made 41 appearances for the side, who finished 16th in the Vanarama Conference table this season.

The 6 foot 2 inch commanding centre back also picked up two awards at Harriers’ end of season awards evening, collecting the club’s Away Fans’ Player of the Season and the Junior Supporters Player of the Season gongs.

Grimes was offered a deal to stay at Aggborough by boss Gary Whild for the 2015/16 season but has instead chosen to join Chris Kinnear’s ranks at Crabble as the side look to build on the successful season that saw the club end in 8th place in our first season back in the Vanarama Conference table.

*BS*Dover Athletic travel to promotion contenders Forest Green Rovers in the final match of the 2014/2015 Vanarama Conference season on Saturday.*BF*

Whites prevented Bristol Rovers from going top of the Conference last Saturday as Ricky Modeste’s late equaliser secured a 1-1 draw with the Gas. The door was left ajar by Barnet who could only manage a 1-1 draw at Kidderminster.

Chris Kinnear’s side are currently 8th in the table and equalling or bettering Halifax’s and Gateshead’s results on the final day will guarantee finishing 8th in the table.

*Ppic1**BS*Team news*BF*
Sean Francis was unavailable due to injury in the last game against Bristol Rovers and is expected to miss the final game against Forest Green.

Supporters and players player of the year winner Tryone Sterling is set to start in defence for Whites on Saturday.

Golden boot winner Stefan Payne is also expected to keep his place in the starting line-up.

For the visitors, left back James Jennings has recently returned to fitness but is unlikely to be involved. Midfielder Corby Moore is also a major doubt as he is suffering from illness.

Midfielder Sam Wedgbury is expected not be risked as he continues his return from a hamstring problem. He was on the bench in their last game against Gateshead and came on with six minutes to play.

Top scorer John Parkin has scored 25 goals so far this campaign including a brace against Gateshead last time out. Only Barnet’s John Akinde (31) has scored more goals in the Vanarama Conference this season.

*BS*Opposition form*BF*
Ady Pennock’s Forest Green Rovers currently occupy the final play-off position and they will know if they defeat Dover they will be guaranteed a play-off spot irrespective of the Macclesfield result, who are one point behind them.

Forest Green have won their last three matches against Chester, Macclesfield and Gateshead scoring 11 goals in the process.

*Lpic1*Rovers have only lost two games in the league since Boxing Day. They were against Aldershot and Woking.

However Saturday’s hosts have not kept a clean sheet since a 0-0 draw at Wrexham back on February 24.

*BS*Last time they met*BF*
Whites hosted Forest Green back in November *Link1* on a day where either side could have claimed all three points if chances were taken.

It is the only 0-0 game Whites have had in the league to date – their only other stalemate being an encounter with Eastbourne Borough in the FA Cup fourth qualifying round.

*BS*Match information*BF*
Only Barnet and Eastleigh have score more goals than Forest Green this season.

Over the last three seasons, Forest Green have finished 10th and have not made the play-offs in neither of their 16 consecutive seasons in the conference.

Forest Green have increased their capacity for the game against Dover and has been described as the biggest game in their history.

For those going to the game, ticket prices are £15 for adults, £11 for seniors, £7 for young adults and juniors enter for £4.

PREVIEW: WREXHAM V DAFC

*BS*Dover Athletic make the 554 mile round trip to north Wales as they take on FA Trophy runners up Wrexham at the Racecourse Ground on Tuesday.*BF*

Whites defeated bottom club Telford 1-0 last Saturday, which confirmed another season in the top tier of non-league football. Meanwhile Telford are on the brink of relegation to the Conference north.

Chris Kinnear’s side have won four of their last five games and will look to end the season strongly with a play-off spot not impossible. He said: “We may have a really hard run in, but we are still looking to move up the table”.

*Ppic1**BS*Team news*BF*
Stefan Payne scored his first goal of 2015 against Telford and is expected to keep his place in the starting XI against Wrexham.

Club captain Connor Essam will be unavailable for selection, with the defender serving the final game of his two-match ban for accruing ten yellow cards.

Wrexham top scorer Louis Moult scored his 19th and 20th goal of the season at Wembley yesterday (Sunday), but it was not enough for his side to lift the FA Trophy.

Dragons boss Kevin Wilkin may rotate some of his players after playing extra time in the FA Trophy final as his side will only have one full day of rest before the visit of Dover.

*BS*More on the opposition*BF*
Wrexham lost the FA Trophy final 5-4 on penalties (3-3 after extra time) to North Ferriby United in an entertaining game at Wembley. It was the first time since 2005 that a club outside the conference has lifted the trophy.

The Dragons were two goals up with just 14 minutes to play and look destined to lift the trophy. However, the Conference north club scored twice in the final periods of the game to send the game to extra time.

*Lpic1*North Ferriby then took the lead in the first half of extra time as substitute Ryan Kendall scored his second goal of the game. But with just two minutes left to play, Moult scored his 20th goal of the campaign to force a penalty shootout.

Wrexham’s league form has been indifferent of late, most recently losing to relegation threatened Nuneaton Town 2-0.

However before that game, the Dragons were unbeaten in five games including victories against Altrincham and Chester.

*BS*Last time they met*BF*
*Link1* against Wrexham back in January courtesy of first half goals from Tom Murphy and Sean Raggett.

Whites were in the midst of their fantastic run of form, with that 2-0 win capping 13 league games unbeaten.

*BS*Match information*BF*
With just half a dozen games to play, a win for Whites could potentially mean they climb above Gateshead and just seven points adrift of the play-offs.

The only other Vanarama Conference game on Tuesday is Dartford v Gateshead which will have huge implications at both ends of the table.

*Lpic2*Wrexham are one of the lowest league scorers in the league with just 41. Only relegation candidates Dartford and Nuneaton have scored less this season in the Vanarama Conference.

Whites supporters will be located in the upper tier of the Yale stand part of the ground on Tuesday night.

Ticket prices are £19 for adults, £14 for Over 62s and under 21s, £7 for over 80s and under 16s and under 11s are just £1.

DOVER BEAT STRUGGLING TELFORD

DOVER BEAT STRUGGLING TELFORD

Stefan Payne’s early goal was enough to see off lowly Telford in an unspectacular event. Chris was in full agreement that the match enjoyment was at a minimum but was still happy to take all three points. ‘I thought we looked really good in the first half, but we seemed to take out foot off the pedal and were overplaying things in the second half. To be fair to Telford, they put four big guys up front to change things and it really became land of the giants.’*Q1*

‘At the end of the day we have cemented ourselves in tenth and are only two points of the team above us. We may have a really hard run in, but we are still looking to move up the table.’

Tom Wynter played in an unfamiliar position, replacing the suspended Connor Essam at right wing back and Kinnear was quick to praise the reliable defender. ‘I remember playing a couple of seasons at left back as a right footer and we know Tom is a proper defender. I thought he did really well.’

Chris will now be scouting Wrexham in Sunday’s FA Trophy final ahead of their league encounter at the Racecourse Ground on Tuesday night. ‘It will be a tough game and it is probably my biggest regret this season that we did not reach the final, but in football you cannot have everything.’

As the matches run out for the season, the squad for next season is fast becoming the hot topic on supporters lips. But Chris was unable to reveal any more news on that front for now. ‘We are talking to the lads and other players,’ he said. ‘This time last year, we did not know what league we would be in, but this year we know and that means we will not have to rush about signing people.’*Lpic1*
