DOVER BEAT STRUGGLING TELFORD

DOVER BEAT STRUGGLING TELFORD

Stefan Payne’s early goal was enough to see off lowly Telford in an unspectacular event. Chris was in full agreement that the match enjoyment was at a minimum but was still happy to take all three points. ‘I thought we looked really good in the first half, but we seemed to take out foot off the pedal and were overplaying things in the second half. To be fair to Telford, they put four big guys up front to change things and it really became land of the giants.’*Q1*

‘At the end of the day we have cemented ourselves in tenth and are only two points of the team above us. We may have a really hard run in, but we are still looking to move up the table.’

Tom Wynter played in an unfamiliar position, replacing the suspended Connor Essam at right wing back and Kinnear was quick to praise the reliable defender. ‘I remember playing a couple of seasons at left back as a right footer and we know Tom is a proper defender. I thought he did really well.’

Chris will now be scouting Wrexham in Sunday’s FA Trophy final ahead of their league encounter at the Racecourse Ground on Tuesday night. ‘It will be a tough game and it is probably my biggest regret this season that we did not reach the final, but in football you cannot have everything.’

As the matches run out for the season, the squad for next season is fast becoming the hot topic on supporters lips. But Chris was unable to reveal any more news on that front for now. ‘We are talking to the lads and other players,’ he said. ‘This time last year, we did not know what league we would be in, but this year we know and that means we will not have to rush about signing people.’*Lpic1*

*BS*Nick Cunningham – our matchball sponsor for next month’s big match against Bristol Rovers – is offering his three seats in the Directors’ Box free of charge to a local worthy cause. We thank Nick for his kind gesture and welcome applications for this unique opportunity.*BF*

The local businessman – who owns Nick Cunningham Plumbing and Heating Engineers, based in Sandwich – is sponsoring the matchball for our final match of the season, when we welcome promotion hopefuls Bristol Rovers to Crabble in what is sure to be our biggest Vanarama Conference attendance of the season.

As part of his sponsorship, Nick is allocated three passes to the Directors’ Box but recently approached the club offering to donate these to a local worthy cause, whether it is an organisation or a family/group of individuals who have experienced difficult times recently.

The winning entry will be welcomed to Crabble and have a car parking space reserved for them in our ‘Premier Club’ parking area, before making their way to the Directors’ Box where they will have reserved premium seating, buffet food and a hot snack at half time, a complimentary bar and a matchday magazine and teamsheet.

If you would like to be considered to receive this prize – which has an equivalent value of £375 – you should e-mail your contact details and brief reason (no more than 200 words) to [email protected] by 5pm on Friday April 3rd.

Once the closing date has passed, Nick and a Dover Athletic Football Club director will select the winning entry and you will be contacted to arrange delivery of your passes.

BRISTOL ROVERS TICKETS

*BS*The club are now able to announce ticketing details for our home match against Bristol Rovers on Saturday April 18th, which will be our last match at Crabble this season. The match will be all-ticket.*BF*

Next month’s fixture against Bristol Rovers will be an event to remember – our opponents are likely to need points to continue their push for promotion, whilst Whites will be keen to end their successful season at Crabble with a victory.

Tickets for Bristol Rovers fans are available only from their club’s ticket office, and visiting supporters have been allocated the Dover End and the Family Stand.

Home supporters can purchase their tickets at the next two home games (vs AFC Telford United tomorrow, and against Woking on April 6th) or from the club office at Crabble on weekdays between 9am and 4.30pm. If you wish to purchase your ticket at one of the two forthcoming matches, please make your way to the Centre Spot where volunteers will be on hand to process your transaction.

We can accept cash or cards, however a small transaction fee will apply for the use of cards. We will not be offering tickets via the telephone or internet.

Prices are as follows:

*BS*Adult standing*BF*: £15
*BS*Adult seating*BF*: £16.50
*BS*Over 60’s standing*BF*: £12
*BS*Over 60’s seating*BF*: £13
*BS*Under 18’s standing*BF*: £6
*BS*Under 18’s seating*BF*: £7

Having been forced to make this fixture all-ticket, we are unable to offer free entry to under 11’s. Due to operational reasons, we are unable to provide this concession to away fans and therefore we are not permitted to offer it to home fans, by competition rules.

We apologise for this and will be looking into how we can enable this for future all ticket fixtures, where an away allocation is predicted to sell-out.

Standard segregation will be in place and fans are reminded to familiarise themselves with the ground rules & regulations prior to the match.

Season ticket holders can use their season tickets as usual for entry, and do not need to purchase a seperate match ticket.

Dover can count themselves unlucky to be on the receiving end of a 1-0 defeat against in form Grimsby at Crabble tonight, but manager Chris Kinnear was able to see plenty of positives from the match. ‘Remember this is a side that could possibly win it and have won six out of their last seven, but there was not much difference between the teams – They were just a little bit cuter and had a little bit more experience.’

A moment of controversy right at the death stopped Whites from claiming a deserved point as Sean Francis’ bullet header appeared to strike a hand in the box. ‘Everyone in the ground saw it was a penalty, so I am not sure what that was all about, but we do not tend to get a lot in the end. Yes it was disappointing to lose, but the supporters still clapped the lads off which they deserved as they gave it a real good go.’

One blot on Dover’s recent record is starting games poorly as John-Lewis early strike proved, something that Chris is well aware of. ‘It was mentioned to be honest and we will have to deal with that as small weaknesses need to be eradicated, but I cannot fault the players as whoever is out there is doing the job. You might see one or two play really well, but that is because the rest of the team are supporting them.’*Q1*

He also added ‘Grimsby had a really good balance with really strong forwards and very pacy wingers. At the back they were no nonsense. But today showed that we are not far away and are still learning. If the players are prepared to learn then they will stick with us.

Next up are bottom club Telford, who could well be ninety minutes away from guaranteed relegation unless they can beat Dover at Crabble on Saturday. ‘They are fighting for their lives and it will be a great experience for the lads’ said Chris. ‘They have just won 2-0 and it will be an interesting game. They are not the worst side I have seen and we could get beaten if we show the wrong attitude. Saying that I don’t think they will as they are all in good spirits right now.’*Lpic1*
